2020 season of AFL shuts down as Australia is moving to lockdown.
The 2020 season of AFL has been postponed amid coronavirus spread. The Australian government has started implementing drastic new measures to stop the spread. The borders of Victoria and New South Wales are going to be closed soon. The trio of announcements arrived ahead of a national cabinet meeting on Sunday, with the federal government already advising against non-essential travel earlier in the day. The AFL has decided to suspend the competition as of Sunday night, informing clubs ahead of a 4.30 pm AEDT press conference with chief executive Gillon McLachlan. The decision to postpone the game has prematurely ended the AFLW finals series with four teams - North Melbourne, Melbourne, Fremantle, and Carlton - still alive.
