Fitzgerald construction will build a bridge across the Brisbane river to honor Australia's first indigenous parliamentarian. The Melbourne based company earlier build a bridge across Yarra to honor an AFL legend. The Victorian company is also known for building Jim Styne's Bridge of Melbourne. The Bridge honored the Brownlow medal winner. The company has the Seafarers bridge, which runs upstreams along with the Yarra under its name. The Star, a bridge built to the Queen's Wharf stablemate on the Goal Coast in another famous work by the company.
The Bridge across the Brisbane river will be named as the Neville Bonner Bridge and is a part of Queen's Wharf Casino Development, a project worth $3.6billion. Mr. Bonner was a federal MP from Queensland. He won the Australian of the year in 1979 and was the first Aboriginal parliamentarian of Australia.
