Two more closed facilities in Melbourne

Recently two other homes for elderly in the capital of Victoria have been closed after having found one infected person with coronavirus. Though he tested negative the second time, he is considered to be still ill. A nurse says they were disappointed by this, but forced to be closed. She adds that they have very strict hygienic precautions. The government of Victoria does not want to repeat the story of Newmarch House in Sydney. All the employees are self-isolated for two weeks.

Victoria's results in fight with coronavirus are not as good as other Australian states have. Today 7 new cases of infection have been found. They are mostly connected with trips abroad and Melbourne's hotspots. 11 people are staying in hospital with COVID-19.

Hazelwood Power Station is fined for 2 million dollars

Three years ago Hazelwood mine in Victoria caused large fire in the region of the town Morwell. It is known that fire happened because coal reserves burst into fire and set on fire everything around. The experts say that the mine did not estimate risks of inflamation adequately. They also neither removed plants form their territory nor watered them, so increased risks to maximum by it. The fire led to people's death and complete evacuation of the town, continuing for almost 45 days.

Recently the court of Melbourne has fined the company for such great pollution of the environment. The fine consisted of 2 million dollars. However, the residents of the valley considered it too small fine. So, 380 000 dollars were demanded.

The Prime Minister announced they had created vouchers for international students in Melbourne. They will be able to use them at Queen Victoria Market. By this they will stimulate trading sphere of Victorian economy.

The Premier said that international students are one of those who suffered the most, lots of them lost their jobs and receive too small help from the government, so by this little support they could help them somehow.

Melbourne is a city which has always been desirable for students from other countries, and it must remain such a hospitable place for them even now, according to the government.

New medical discovery of Melbourne scientists

Recently Melbourne's medical researchers have announced about a new discovery which could help in a fight with coronavirus. Since 2018 they have been working at vaccine against malaria. Every year almost a half of million people become victims of this dangerous disease, most of them are children. The disease is widespread in Africa.

So, vaccine is being tested on mice now and the results are positive. Medical people say they found an ingredient which can increase immunity of a person, not only a mouse. It can help to defeat not only malaria, but to increase immunity of lungs against COVID-19.

However, some experts say it might not work when a study begins with humans.

Easing down the restrictions in Victoria

The Prime Minister of Victoria has finally announced the date of easing the quarantine restrictions down. He said it would be on Tuesday. Well, what does it mean for Victorian residents?

Firstly, gatherings of 10 people are allowed in the state. But if you want to invite someone to your home, only 5 people can come. That also means that you can visit elderly people as well, but the Premier does not advise to do so, or, at least, you should undertake some hygienic steps.

All the sport activities outdoors are as well allowed, but, again, not more than 10 people in one group. You can also go fishing or haunting, but all the hygienic rules must be fulfilled. However, camping is still forbidden, you must not stay for night. And all the golf clubs remain closed. The Premier reminded that people are responsible for coronavirus spread, so they should be very careful.

Not more than 10 guests may also attend any celebration, such as a wedding. But restaurants and cafes remain closed.
