Directors of Formula 1 in Melbourne did all they could

Mark Webber defended the leadership of Formula 1 and the promoters of the Australian Grand Prix, justifying their actions in the early days of the race weekend in Melbourne, which was not destined to take place.

Traditionally, the season began with the Australian race, but just a few hours before the start of the first training session, the stage was canceled due to a series of events associated with the coronavirus pandemic.

The organizers were then criticized for what they took so long with the decision, but the former driver believes that the promoters and leaders of Formula 1 did everything they could.

“The stage was about to begin, but you must admit that at that moment the situation on a global scale changed every hour,” said the Australian, “I think that if everyone arrived in Melbourne, then the organizers tried to do everything they could.

Unfortunately, the results of several tests for coronavirus conducted in the paddock were positive. And in the end I had to capitulate at a very unpleasant moment, when the fans had already reached the track. But at that moment, the promoters, together with Formula 1, did what they could. ”
