A fire broke in The Cube in Bolton, which is an accommodation for students. Hundreds of students were evacuated from the building. There were close to 200 firefighters and 40 fire engines on the scene struggling to put down the fire. The building is owned by a private student accommodation provider Urban Student Life (USL), and according to the reports, the firm had been previously reprimanded as it failed to comply with the fire safety regulations for a different building. The building was operational since 2016. Shelly Asquith, who worked as the NUS Vice President, revealed the problems with USL’s history with fire safety regulations. In the recent fire, two students were reported injured. The Cube was supposed to be safe, and the fire safety officers also stated the same, but the recent fire has raised a lot of questions.
