Malnutrition is something that we have all probably heard about, but only a few know what it is as they are the ones who are experiencing it.

Now, what is malnutrition, it's the lack of sufficient nutrition in the body. Even though the two types of malnutrition are undernutrition and over-nutrition. Undernutrition is the primary focus for us because it's something we can help prevent as a society, whereas overnutrition can be treated by dietary adjustments on a personal level. The meaning of malnutrition might be relatively simple, but the problem itself is tough and horrifying for those suffering from it. We are the fortunate ones who get to wake up every day without worrying about our meals because we have our breakfast, lunch and dinner without even having to think about it. But over one-third of the world's malnourished children live in India and the prevalence of undernutrition is highest among children under five. The problem of child malnutrition in India has often been associated with historical antecedents such as poverty, inequality and food shortage. However, countries with similar historical and societal makeup and comparable per capita income have fared much better. What malnutrition does is it weakens every part of the immune system.

In recent years, India has become a self-sufficient nation in grain production and has enjoyed steady economic growth. Despite this success, there is no alleviation of poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition in the country. India is one of the highest-ranking countries around the globe for the most number of children suffering from malnutrition. And that is something no Indian should be proud of. Recently, we have witnessed that malnutrition is becoming a crucial problem. India's grinding Covid lockdown interrupted vital government schemes that aid hundreds of millions of women and children and the COVID 19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown have made food insecurity worse by disrupting the food distribution system across large parts of India. Currently, it is felt that nutrition is more important and needs attention because malnutrition causes major health issues to the body of an individual, especially in children. These issues include stunted growth, eye problems, diabetes and heart diseases, etc. Today, 690 million people around the globe will go to bed on an empty stomach.

The 2021 Global Nutrition Report (GNR 2021) revealed five out of six global maternal, infant and young children nutrition (MIYCN) targets to address stunting, wasting, anaemia, low birth weight and childhood obesity are off track. At the same time, the global nutrition target (GNT) to combat the growing prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is also off track. A shift from eating whole-food-based balanced meals to consuming sugary drinks, ultra-processed foods and processed red meat is negatively impacting our health and environment.

To meet nutrition targets on stunting, wasting, maternal anaemia and breastfeeding by 2030 alone there is a need for an additional 10.8 billion USD between 2022 and 2030.

According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS), 2019-21, the 5th in the series India has seen no significant improvement in health and nutritional status among her population. The latest data shows, that 7.7% of children are severely wasted, 19.3% are wasted and 35.5% are stunted. At the same time, 3.4% of children are overweight which was 2.1% in NFHS-4. Anaemia among children under-5 has become significantly worse with the current prevalence as 67.1% compared to 58.6% according to NFHS-4. 57% of women of reproductive age are anaemic in the country.

Some signs and symptoms of malnutrition include:

  • Development delays
  • Weight loss
  • A lack of appetite or interest in food or drink
  • Tiredness and irritability
  • An inability to concentrate
  • Always feeling cold
  • Depression
  • Loss of fat, muscle mass, and body tissue
  • A higher risk of getting sick and taking longer to heal
  • Longer healing time for wounds

  1. Malnutrition plays an enormous role in the onset of active tuberculosis.
  2. It also increases the risk of HIV transmission from mother to child and expands the replication of the virus.
  3. Malnutrition can cause vitamin deficiency-related diseases like scurvy and rickets.
  4. As malnutrition aggravates, sufferers have less energy and experience impairment in brain functions.
  5. All this can make it difficult (or impossible) for them to perform the tasks needed to acquire food, earn an income, or gain an education.

Malnutrition can also cause acute problems, like hypoglycaemia or low blood sugar, marasmus or protein deficiency. This condition can cause lethargy, limpness, seizures and loss of consciousness. Children are particularly at risk and can become hypoglycaemic after 4 to 6 hours without food. Dehydration can also occur in malnourished people and can be life-threatening, especially in babies and small children.

A comprehensive need-based approach is the need of the hour to tackle poor nutrition and address inequality through policy reform, effective implementation of nutrition programs and ensuring a seamless food distribution system. To recover lost health during the pandemic, as well as to ensure the population remains resilient in the future, sustainable nutrition is crucial.

Treatment may include:

  • dietary changes, such as eating foods high in energy and nutrients
  • support for families to help them manage factors affecting the child's nutritional intake
  • treatment for any underlying medical conditions causing malnutrition
  • vitamin and mineral supplements
  • high-energy and protein nutritious supplements – if the other treatments are not enough on their own

Severely malnourished children need to be fed and rehydrated with great care. They cannot be provided with a regular diet immediately. They'll usually require special care in the hospital. Once they're well enough, they can gradually begin eating a traditional diet and continue this at home.

More than thousands of families in Delhi have no source of income due to Covid-19. They are finding it difficult to feed their families. We have decided to help them with monthly Rations, cooked food and sanitary products.

Afghanistan earthquake kills at least 1000 people; more than 600 injured.

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 killed 1000 people in Afghanistan early on Wednesday, disaster management officials said, with more than 600 injured and the count expected to grow as information trickles in from remote mountain villages.

Neighbouring Pakistan’s Meteorological Department said the quake’s epicentre was in Afghanistan’s Paktika Province, just near the border and some 50 kilometres (31 miles) southwest of the city of Khost. Such temblors can cause severe damage, particularly in an area like this one where homes and other buildings are poorly constructed and landslides are common.

“So far the information we have is that at least 1000 people have been martyred and 600 injured,” Mawlawi Sharafuddin Muslim, deputy minister of disaster management, told a news conference on Wednesday.

Earlier, interior ministry official Salahuddin Ayubi earlier said the death toll was likely to rise “as some of the villages are in remote areas in the mountains and it will take some time to collect details”.

In Kabul, Prime Minister Mohammad Hassan Akhund convened an emergency meeting at the presidential palace to coordinate the relief effort for victims in Paktika and Khost.

The “response is on its way”, the U.N. Resident Coordinator in Afghanistan, Ramiz Alakbarov, wrote on Twitter.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in a statement offered his condolences over the earthquake, saying his nation will provide help to the Afghan people.

Indian army.

Hello friends. Our indian. Army is best army in the world.

India Need educated politicians :

1.The other day a leading paper highlighted the educational qualifications of few newly appointed ministers in punjab. As per news report Mr.Sony dy C M is Xll pass,Dr Raj Kumar verka holding medical education ministry besides assiging the responsibilty of some other ministries is BA 1 dropout,Mr Raja warring is marticulate holding the charge of Transport minister is matric and Mr Sangat singh Khiljian, the minister of EDUCATION is IX th pass. As per another ADR report in all there are 60 MLAs in current Punjab assembly who are Matric or below.

2.The report is disturbing and do not auger well for the healthy development of political system. The situation is not different in other parts of the country or even at the national level. When average indian is touching new heights in the field of education illiterate politicians continue to wield power to rule the most literate people. This must stop.

3.Democracy weakened:

A child namely democracy was born in India on 15 August 1947 and guardians of this child were freedom fighters/politicians.The upbringing of this child was good in the beginning but with the passage of time as the guardians kept changing, the child/democracy suffered and reduced to their subservient. The guardians became so power drunk, which they acquired through the child/democracy, that they failed in their responsibility to add brick and mortar to make it strong and robust for the future generations. Rather they worked to muzzle it as they got the opportunity to serve their own vested interests. As our democracy has become 75 years old,it remains a frail and fragile figure. The result is this sacred institution has not got matured enough to get impervious of the actions and behaviour of politicians. The educated and wise people are out of reckoning, the poor and more poor have remained in the shackles of powerful illiterate/semi literate politicians.Freebees and other election times bribes blind the poor people judgements and delinquent politicians win.AS long as this vicious circle is not broken the illiterate politicians will continue to rule the roost and democracy will not grow.

4.Why there is no education criteria in politics like all other jobs and professions:

Our political class is behaving like old feudal rulers who were above the laws of the land. Minimum educational qualification is laid down for every service or profession, why even after 75 years of independence,a minimum respectable educational criteria could not be formed for political class.Minimum graduation qualification should be prescribed for an MLA/MP/MC.

In the free for all field of current politics, all sorts of criminals, goondas, drug dealers, even gangsters and so on are getting comfortable entries in any party and getting the protection of like minded people who are already there. Such people wins the elections and become MLA/MP then go on to become our ministers only because the sane educated voices do not speak out out of fear of harm.

5.Our present political set up is quite hierarchical and feudal:

How a normal person who begins his political career search as a humble man gets to become rich or some time millionaire after he gets a break. No other business grows as rapidly as the assests of politicians grow after each of the tenure. This is irrespective of being a simple MLA/MP or a minister, whether in ruling party or in the opposition

Everything works systematically in this system to gain favours on the basis of quid pro quo. Each MLA/MP has appointed one of his close and confidential relation to act on his behalf.Every big politician can be related to big mafia to mint money.

6.After celeberating Amrit Mahotsav of our Independence, the people of India deserve to see educated clean people enter in to politics.let the illiterate or semi literate not command the most educated and intelligent classes who are bound to obey their orders some times unwillingly.
