WITH VIDEO BELOW: January 2021 will remain an important date in the history of the Findhorn Foundation. It marks the end of a long journey of contraction that started when the pandemic forced us to close to residential guests for now, changing so much of the community life we’ve loved for decades.
The resulting financial crisis forced a heartbreaking process of re-evaluating all the roles that have always supported the holding of guests and kickstarted the formal redundancy process that at times has felt so alien to the way we normally operate.
Caroline Matters, our lead steward:
‘What a time this is, of profound change. More than half our co-worker body left us at the end of January. Many have been here for decades and are woven into the fabric of this community. So January was a sad time of goodbyes, and now a much smaller group of about 50 are starting the process of reimagining the Foundation and how we work to share love, light and wisdom within the world. Our core impulse still shines brightly, and it also goes with the co-workers who are moving on out into the world.
‘We have engaged Touch, a creative agency in Edinburgh that worked on the Edinburgh International Festival, to help us redefine who we are now, and how we share our service to the world. This first week of February we’re holding an internal conference to work on our mission – to pause for some deep inner listening to guide our way through this transition and step into New Beginnings with hope, love, inspiration and purpose.’
The Foundation community held a two-day completion and threshold ritual on 19 and 20 January – sadly on Zoom of course. Here is Sue Miles’s account of this last coming together of the Foundation grouping as we’ve known it for so long.
Sue Miles, co-worker:
‘This was to mark the release of the Foundation as we have known it, as well as the workforce who have been made redundant. It was a touching and deeply significant moment, as I’m sure you can imagine. It has been heartbreaking and shocking for many of the co-workers, but it was clear that we simply could not continue as we were with no income coming in.
‘On the second day we divided into two groups: those continuing on and those leaving. Transformation Game creators Joy Drake and Kathy Tyler (who is also our chair of trustees) each led a group to do a next-steps process in connection with the intention as follows:
Intention: To gain insight and gather resources to support our crossing of the threshold.
‘The next steps were not intended to be cards for any group as a whole, but to support each person’s crossing of the threshold we worked with on Tuesday.
‘For all of us that threshold is one of leaving the Foundation as we have all known it. Some of us will move forward with the Foundation as it goes through its changes, others of us will move forward in myriad directions. In the sharings, some people processed the cards very personally, and others related the cards to the Foundation’s overall process.’
Cards for those moving forward within the Foundation:
Insight: You take the initiative.
Setback: You feel the need to be always proving yourself to others at the expense of taking time to really listen and communicate.
Insight 1: An opportunity to give truthful feedback now to one other player who is born.
Insight 2: You are willing to bear the discomfort involved in shifting perspective.
Cards for those moving forward beyond the Foundation:
Insight: Thank you for demonstrating joyous, conscious human living.
Group Setback: Are we really all one? Your ego receives a minor dent and you react by getting uptight, thereby cutting off the love flow and effective communication.
Group Insight: You are radiant with forgiveness.
These amazing cards, so apt for each group, offer a foundation and support for all our next steps. Right now the co-worker body must come together and redefine who we are and how we can best serve our shared purpose of shining the Foundation’s light into the world.
The New Beginnings internal conference starts this evolution, and we’ll continue to post updates on the process of the Foundation’s new unfolding.
‘Deep gratitude to everyone for their support through this process, and for the heartening wishes of love and care we’ve received from all around the world. The Findhorn Foundation has had such a profound effect on so many people over the last six decades, and we’re very conscious of the responsibility we carry to keep its light shining. We look forward to taking this new journey with you.’
The end of January sees a profound change for the Findhorn Foundation, as we say goodbye to many co-workers whose roles were focused on receiving residential guests who, due to the pandemic, we can no longer hold. To mark this transition, the community held a threshold ritual over two days. Here’s Britta Schmitz’s experience of the ritual:
Halfway through January we – the Findhorn Foundation co-worker body – went through a two-day threshold ritual to mark this point in time where so much change is happening for us individually, as a community and organisation and in the world. A time of letting go of so much that we loved and which defined our lives.
As Eileen said: ‘Life is full and overflowing with the new. But it is necessary to empty out the old to make room for the new to enter.’
In the Original Garden
Much of the old has gone for us here at Findhorn: like in so much of the world due to the pandemic, we have to switch to online events and workshops, since we can’t welcome physical guests. We cannot come together to share, hug and hold hands. And sadly many beloved co-workers are leaving the Findhorn Foundation for now – luckily most of them are staying in the area as part of our community. As it is for most of us all over the planet, life here at Findhorn is very different from before.
And in these times of big changes little miracles happen, that fan the flames of the fire of trust in the divine in my heart.
During our ritual Judy McAllister led us into a meditation crossing the threshold of the ‘new’ to emerge after this time of release. We were invited to bring two candles for this meditation (I actually had written the invitation myself – twice!) and of course I forgot to bring them. I was cycling down the Park when I realised I had forgotten them, but I had a strong feeling that I would find two candles, so I didn’t turn around. I expected to find them in Delphi, the building I did the Zoom call in, but to my surprise couldn’t find any in there. So I released the candles from my thoughts and prepared to go through the meditation without them.
During the meditation, when Judy invited us to step over the threshold into the new, I literally did it by climbing out of a window and went into the beautiful winter wonderland of the icy original garden. I felt really attracted to go into the frost-covered pavilion. I had difficulties opening the door at first, but I persevered and when I finally opened the door I found…. Two beautiful candles and a poem! This deeply touched my heart and showed me the ‘new’ I would like to step into more and more. The simple pleasures of an ordinary life, with many extraordinary moments, that can be found even in the simplest and smallest things.
By William Martin
I feel I already experienced a lot of this over the last months, by having more time to co-create with life: grow a garden, harvest my own fruit and veg, cook jams, make elderflower champagne, swim in the sea, climb mountains, talk to robins, sit by fires… and even just this moment of climbing out of the window of a stuffy room where I was sitting in front of a computer, walking into the crisp beauty of the Original Garden, breathing in freedom and the divine, finding magic in two lit candles, a poem and the peace surrounding me.
In my heart and soul I am so deeply touched by the simplicity of the divine love showing up in my life through connecting deeper to the simple things our ancestors did. My (our?) ancient future?
Thank you William Martin for the wonderful poem and Park Garden for creating such a beautiful space.
Lots of Love and deep Gratitude, Britta

Each day comes with its own bouts of joys and/or disappointments. One minute you're happy, the next minute, who knows? Life is very unpredictable. It constantly throws a lot of sh..t at us and it depends how street savvy, positive-minded, and thick skinned you're, to avoid throwing in the towel.
I've walked through numerous valleys full of shadows of death.. We've all faced problems of mammoth proportions such that giving up was the only available option.
But somehow, we summoned those remnants of resilience...and made it. I always never fail to give glory to the Living God for always coming to my rescue in the nick of time..To Him, it is never too late. He controls time, chance, space, our destined futures, All He requires is FAITH...the rest, He takes over. On second thoughts, he tells Paul that His power "is manifested during our weakness".
We may be facing insurmountable problems right now, during this infamous, January month. No light might be flickering at the end of the tunnel. Friends may disappear when we need them most..the cat might be *sleeping on the oven*...no help might forthcoming..we trust in men, when the One who controls the future is only a prayer away.
Let's give glory to God, trust in the Son He sent as atonement for our sins. To the oppressed by life's problems and those who want to give up, including me. DON'T. Let's look up to the heavens..He is forever ready to help. Happy Sabbath!
Music is food for the soul, and for others it is an escape, a way of falling in love on a bright sunny spring’s day or rather escaping to a world of the unknown where only the rhythm, beats and melodies speak to one’s heart. The world with it’s godly natural sounds, gave birth to many genres of music, from your heartfelt RnB and Soul to the upbeat roaring sounds of the township, Kwaito and from there the rhythmic, enchanting, vibrant beats of what we call House music. Many like myself believe that house music gave birth to the other genres we hear of today, but later discovered Jazz was the bearer of it all, like the famous genre of Deep house music believed to be listened my abogrootman, with their famous mantra,” the aim is not to sweat.”
But for this young man, born and bred in the small village of Ga-Mashabela, in the belly of Sekhukhune District, Limpopo Province, his love for music didn’t deter him into listening our famous genres of Hip Hop or Amapiano but the very genre that speaks to the soul, Deep House music. Justice Mahlong, professionally known as GabDeesoul in the music industry, had a love for music growing up; influenced by the affluent and talented likes of Oscar Mbo, Ezra, DJ Mlu, etc. In 2013, GabDeesoul the artist was born, he started collecting deep house music and in his music journey as only a teenager, he scored his first ever gig in Mpumalanga, Lydenburg where he discovered his talent.
As the years went by and still a high school learner, his musical journey led him to meeting a group called the 1064s Records in 2015, which helped him gain recognition in the underground music industry. Together with the 1064s Records crew, they met the HDOSDH-High Definition of Strictly Deep House on one of their gigs in Phokwane, and together they soared on to host their first ever show/event 2017. Like everything has a beginning, the show was also a first of just too many to come, he says it was one show that got him face to face with some of his favorite artists that have inspired his musical journey. The likes of Scotch Flavio, Tshipi My Man, ThabzTwentyTwo just to mention a few.
Like all of us, we have an escape; a favorite thing that helps us forget about our problems and just breathe and just like in every industry, there are bumps and hiccups here and there, but we soldier on. For GabDeesoul music was that escape. It helped him soothe pains, and triumph against all odds, it was his passion, hard work and perseverance that has kept him in the game for long especially at a young age. To finally reap the fruits of his labor and let others onto the opportunities he was once given, he started an online movement, Feel the Sessions Podcast in the year 2019. The platform was aimed at giving hope and a home for new and upcoming artists to showcase their craft, host guests and feature mixes from the Head Honcho Gds. “It has been an experience for me, and in 2021 I finally launched the brand. With the first live event at Feel the Sessions…” He said, and he further went on to explain how much of an overwhelming experience it was and also promised to give an everlasting entertainment in the industry.
Every gift is a calling, and every calling has a purpose, in his closing statements he said, “For me, music is life, and it has helped me connect with people I never knew, and I’m still looking forward to shaking as many hands out there as I preach unity for the underground.” Like they say good things do come to an end, but music is forever, deep house fans and just lovers of feel-good music can support and review GabDeesoul’s musical journey by following his Facebook pages,’ Feel the Sessions’ and ‘GabDeesoul Gds’. he also has a ‘Feel the Sessions’ merch for sale, so if you feel it, why not wear it and groove with it.

Hacking is the activity of identifying weaknesses in a computer system or a network to exploit the security to gain access to personal data or business data. An example of computer hacking can be: using a password cracking algorithm to gain access to a computer system.
Who is a Hacker?
A Hacker is a person who finds and exploits the weakness in computer systems and/or networks to gain access. Hackers are usually skilled computer programmers with knowledge of computer security.
Types of Hackers
Hackers are classified according to the intent of their actions. The following list classifies types of hackers according to their intent: White hat hacker
Ethical Hacker (White hat): A security hacker who gains access to systems with a view to fix the identified weaknesses. They may also perform penetration Testing and vulnerability assessments.
Cracker (Black hat): A hacker who gains unauthorized access to computer systems for personal gain. The intent is usually to steal corporate data, violate privacy rights, transfer funds from bank accounts etc.
Grey hat: A hacker who is in between ethical and black hat hackers. He/she breaks into computer systems without authority with a view to identify weaknesses and reveal them to the system owner.
Script kiddies: A non-skilled person who gains access to computer systems using already made tools.
Hacktivist: A hacker who use hacking to send social, religious, and political, etc. messages. This is usually done by hijacking websites and leaving the message on the hijacked website.
Phreaker: A hacker who identifies and exploits weaknesses in telephones instead of computers.
State-sponsored hackers/ Nation-State: actors aggressively target and gain persistent access to public and private sector networks to compromise, steal, change, or destroy information. They may be part of a state apparatus or receive direction, funding, or technical assistance from a nation-state.
Type of Cybercrime
The following list presents the common types of cybercrimes:
Computer Fraud: Intentional deception for personal gain via the use of computer systems.
Privacy violation: Exposing personal information such as email addresses, phone number, account details, etc. on social media, hacking a website, etc.
Identity Theft: Stealing personal information from somebody and impersonating that person.
Sharing copyrighted files/information: This involves distributing copyright protected files such as eBooks and computer programs etc.
Electronic funds transfer: This involves gaining an un-authorized access to bank computer networks and making illegal fund transfers.
Electronic money laundering: This involves the use of the computer to launder money.
ATM Fraud: This involves intercepting ATM card details such as account number and PIN numbers. These details are then used to withdraw funds from the intercepted accounts.
Denial of Service Attacks: This involves the use of computers in multiple locations to attack servers with a view of shutting them down.
Spam: Sending unauthorized emails. These emails usually contain advertisements.
What is Ethical Hacking?
Ethical Hacking is identifying weakness in computer systems and/or computer networks and coming with countermeasures that protect the weaknesses. Ethical hackers must abide by the following rules.
Get written permission from the owner of the computer system and/or computer network before hacking.
Protect the privacy of the organization been hacked.
Transparently report all the identified weaknesses in the computer system to the organization.
Inform hardware and software vendors of the identified weaknesses.
Why Ethical Hacking?
Information is one of the most valuable assets of an organization. Keeping information secure can protect an organization’s image and save an organization a lot of money.
Fake hacking can lead to loss of business for organizations that deal in finance such as PayPal. Ethical hacking puts them a step ahead of the cyber criminals who would otherwise lead to loss of business.
Legality of Ethical Hacking
Ethical Hacking is legal if the hacker abides by the rules stipulated in the above section on the definition of ethical hacking. The International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council) provides a certification program that tests individual’s skills. Those who pass the examination are awarded with certificates. The certificates are supposed to be renewed after some time.
