Rakesh and Sarang Wadhawan were arrested by ED (Enforcement Directorate) on 18 October. Also presented in court and demanded remand. The PMLA court had then given both of them on remand till October 22, seeking extension of remand, stating that during the investigation, ED officials have identified 50 such properties which were purchased by HDIL's Rakesh and Sarang Wadhawan.

It was also told to the court that there is a possibility that HDIL bought and sold these properties with the proceeds of crime. There is a need to identify and find out all these. This has come out from the statements of eyewitnesses who are employees of HDIL.

The prosecution pleaded seeking remand for further interrogation of the accused, arguing that they were not cooperating in the interrogation. Also, it is necessary to find out, apart from buying property, locker and investment, and how the proceeds of crime were laundering. The defense counsel Amit Desai opposed the demand for extension of remand. Desai said that there is nothing new in the old remand report and what was presented in the court on Tuesday. According to Desai, the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police had also said the same while seeking remand. The value of assets is more than the principal loan amount of 1600 to 1800 crore rupees taken. On this, the amount of the original loan stated by the prosecution is Rs 2500 crore. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court extended the remand of Rakesh and Sarang Wadhawan for two days i.e. until October 24.
