APC WINS OKIGWE SENATE ELECTION, INEC RETURNS NO CANDIDATE AS WINNER

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the All Progressive Congress, APC, as winner of Okigwe Senatorial Election held on December 5

Strangely, the electoral Commission, did not return a candidate for the party as winner.

Announcing the results of the election, the Election Returning Officer, Hakeem Adikum, said “I hereby return the All Progressive Congress as the winner of the bye election held in Imo North on Saturday, December 5.

According to him, APC won in five out of six local governments in the senatorial district namely Okigwe,Onuimo, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano, and Ihitte Uboma LGAs, while the PDP won in one local government area, Obowo.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof Francis Ezeonu, said INEC was unable to return a candidate from the APC as winner because of several Court orders for and against Ibezim and Araraume.

Prior to the election, the APC has been engulfed in crisis over who is the authentic candidate of the party for the polls.

Two court judgements had surfaced on Friday, one from the Appeal Court, Owerri, and another from Federal High Court, Abuja.

The Court of Appeal, Owerri, sacked Senator Ifeanyi Araraume as candidate of the party, faulting the judgement of the Federal High Court, Owerri, which nullified the candidacy of Mr.Frank Ibezim.

The Federal High Court, Abuja, in it’s ruling declared Senator Araraume as candidate of the party, on the grounds Frank Ibezim presented fake certificates to the APC and INEC.

The two court judgements may have forced INEC not to declare any of the “candidates” in the APC, as winner of the election.

Meanwhile official results announced by INEC for the election shows that the APC polled a total of 36, 811 votes, while the PDP got 31,903 votes.

Below are results of the election from the six local governments.

Imo North Bye-election: Thousands Of Aggrieved APC Members To Support APGA Candidate - Attorney Dr. Charles Onyirimba As The Best Candidate To Represent Okigwe Zone At The Senate.

"We have been watching his subtle and refined style of politicking with some relish. It seems his lifestyle is built around leadership that he controls the art and act of followership" - they say.

In a recent development, the calm but well focused Candidate of APGA - Atty Dr. Onyirimba seems to have finally got to the point of putting the last nail on the coffin of the APC in Okigwe Senatorial Zone. Everyone who has followed the story of APC will affirm that it lacks competence and has failed the good people of Imo North a lot and enough. According to them: "APC has continued with impunity and could not get such refined leader and thinker for us to support its so-called candidate. Onyirimba has already assured the good people of Imo North of competent representation at the Red Chamber. He is people oriented, accessible, trustworthy and vibrant."

Addressing his supporters and admirers in Okigwe, Onyirimba averred that the dream to bring home developments and effective legislative representation must never die in him. He assured every son and daughter of Imo North to have hope as time will tell lots.

When correspondents aksed many of APC aggrieved members who has felt disappointed on how they have been represented so far at the Senate, of their next line of action, they said "party politics aside", they believe strongly in the competence and Onyirimba has it all. "He is the most trustworthy and people oriented among other Candidates for the upcoming bye-election." They said they believe in Onyirimba and what he can offer Ndi Okigwe at the Senate and will therefore, wait for the right time to give him total support and their votes.

On what seems the ripe of that time, different arms of APC in Okigwe Senatorial Zone are already crumbling. It has become very clear that many have decided to give APGA Candidate - Atty Dr. Onyirimba their total support and votes for greater impacts and transformation of Imo North. It is also clear more APC aggrieved members and other well-meaning sons and daughters of Imo North from various political parties are also joining Onyirimba and his team as he is gathering his arsenal for the final campaign showdown for Imo North Senatorial seat. According to the aggrieved APC members: "No amount of Party threat or surveillance on the Party Excos can save the situation."

When team of correspondents besieged Onyirimba, asking him to tell them about latest development, he only smiled in his characteristic humility. All he could say is that action speaks louder than words. According to him, a lot will be happening in the coming days and weeks as we get closer to the election date proper - 31st October, 2020. But he assured them and those who came to listen to his kind and wise words, that APGA and Onyirimba will surely win the upcoming Imo North bye-election, and that it will mark a turnaround time for the Zone.

When Onyirimba was asked of his programs for the good people of Imo North, he stated that his team have earmarked the Focus of Transformation Agenda which is the centerpiece of his campaign philosophy.

EDUCATION

HEALTH

AGRICULTURE

TECHNOLOGY AND EMPOWERMENT.

Onyirimba further submitted that the Focus will have tributaries in security of lives and property, wealth and job creation, good welfare, distribution of wealth and equitable employment opportunities, environment and ecology, higher standard of living and per excellence, extended life expectancy frame.

In concluding his chat with the team, he asked God to grant him the wisdom to finish this engagement in clean shit of quality representation for the good people of Imo North.

In Nigeria: A call for action to uphold good governance amidst general inaction, fraud, corrupt practices and insecurity to lives and property?

The federal govt led by President Bola Asiwaju Tinubu (PBAT) is busy making monetary policies that their actions are opposed to. What are the ways, and the optimal way out of this dilemma?

In the heart of Nigeria's challenges, where corruption, insecurity, and governance failures loom large, there emerges a clarion call for

transformation. Let us heed this call, for within it lies the seeds of hope and progress.

The Epistocratic Challenge: A Call for Change

Obasesam Okoi and MaryAnne Iwara, in their insightful analysis, highlight the systemic risks plaguing Nigeria: election fraud, terrorist attacks, herder-farmer conflicts, armed banditry, ethnic and religious militias, injustice, disregard for rule of law by persons in positions of authority, and police/security operatives brutality. These are not mere shadows; they are the stark realities faced by our nation. The failure of governance to address these issues is a glaring indictment of our current system.

The Charter of Accountability and Good Governance

To navigate this treacherous terrain, we must forge a new path—a charter of accountability, good governance, and systems that exhibit zero-tolerance for corruption. Let us inscribe within it the following principles:

1. Citizen-Centric Leadership: Our leaders must recognize that they serve the people and practice the servant leadership model.Their duty lies in attending to the legitimate expectations and needs of the citizens. The public good must always triumph over personal interests. Such leaders will abhor unrealistic emoluments and benefits to self, shun budget padding and extra-ordinary expenditure of public funds.

2. Transparency and Responsiveness: The opacity of governance breeds distrust. Let us throw open the doors, allowing light to disinfect our institutions. Responsive leaders listen to the pulse of the people, adapting policies to their needs.

3. Rule of Law and Human Rights: Justice is the cornerstone of good governance. Upholding the rule of law ensures that no one is above justice, and human rights are inviolable. Let us champion these ideals¹.

4. Education and Voter Capability: Our voters need enlightenment. An epistocratic system—one founded on the pedigree of leaders and the education of voters—can break the chains of ignorance. Educated voters make informed choices, and capable leaders steer the ship of state with wisdom¹.

The Optimal Way Forward

1. Institutional Strengthening: Bolster our institutions—the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB). These guardians of integrity must be fortified to combat corruption and malfeasance.

2. Holistic Policy Reform: Policies are the lifeblood of governance. Let us craft policies that empower, uplift, and protect. A robust policy framework, rooted in economic growth and development, will be our compass.

3. Unity and Collective Action: We stand stronger together. Citizens, civil society, and the private sector must unite. Our collective voice can shake the foundations of corruption and demand accountability.

The Call Echoes

Nigeria, our beloved land, awaits her redemption. Let us heed the call for change, for within it lies our destiny. Rise, fellow Nigerians, rise! The dawn of a new era beckons, and together, we shall forge a legacy of good governance, justice, and prosperity.

"It is impossible to enjoy the fruits of effort without first making the effort." — Margaret Thatcher

Let our effort be unwavering, our resolve unyielding. For Nigeria, for our children, for generations yet unborn—let us be the architects of transformation. 🇳🇬
