The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun has again evicted 137 northerners from the state forest reserve.
Those evicted were occupying the Elegbeka forest reserve along Ifon-Owo Road
Apart from ejecting the herdsmen, the governor also banned underage grazing, night grazing, and movement of cattle within the cities and highways.
Speaking with journalists in Akure, the state commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye described herdsmen’s continued occupation of the forest reserves as a security threat to the state.
Adeleye said all the illegal forest occupants would be escorted out of the state to wherever they came from.
He said, “We got an Intelligence report that very many people bombarded (forests at) Elegbeka–Ifon area in the state.
“We moved in and questioned the majority of them and they said they were from the northern part of the country. We asked for their mission, they were not able to give us a clear-cut (explanation) of what they were here for.
“We brought some of them (to Akure) and their sponsors here to the headquarters (of Amotekun) for proper investigation. We profiled them and found out that they were conniving with some persons in Ose to be given space for settlement in the government’s forest reserve which makes them illegal occupants in the forest reserve.”
The chairman said, “We are sending them back to where they claimed they came from.”
This comes a few days after the government evacuated 42 suspected invaders, who were arrested by Amotekun at Okitipupa, the headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.
The suspected invaders who hailed from Kano and Jigawa states claimed that they were invited to the state by an agent who will engage them as security guards to monitor and guide pipelines in the state.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has won 14 out of the 18 chairmanship positions in the local government election conducted on Saturday in Ondo State.
The results of the election was announced by the Chairman of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), Prof. Yomi Dinakin, after the presentation of results by returning officers for each of the local governments.
As at the time of filling this report, results of polls in four local governments were still been awaited.
The local governments, which results were still been awaited are Akoko North West, Akoko South West, Idanre and Ondo East.
Of the 14 election results released, five local government chairmanship positions were returned unopposed.
The ODIEC chairman said the five APC candidates were returned unopposed, because only APC fielded contestants for the chairmanship positions.
Dinakin said the candidates were declared winners in accordance with the provisions of ODEC law.
The affected council areas are Akoko North East, Ose Local Government, Ifedore Local Government, Odigbo Local Government and Irele Local Government
The Ondo State local government election was held on Saturday without the participation of major opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Busola Akinro, a ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, was on Saturday attacked by armed thugs suspected to be loyal to the All Progressives Congress during the local government election.
Mr Akinro was attacked at the front of his house at Igbara Oke in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state while voting took place.
A source, who witnessed the attack, said the hoodlums loyal to the APC came to challenge Akiro in his house for allegedly influencing electorates to vote for the candidates of African Democratic Party in the election.
"The APC thugs came and began harassing the Chairman because the voting took place directly in front of his house.
"They felt they were not going to win there because of the ADC. In fact, they also assaulted his daughter and cut him with axe on his right arm," the source said.
He explained that the case was immediately reported at Igbara Oke Police Station before the victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
A police officer, who was also at the scene, confirmed the attack, noting that some arrests had been made.
The Social Democratic Party has chosen Alhaji Adekunle Saliu as its flag bearer for the October 10, 2020, Ondo State governorship election.
Saliu emerged victorious after an indirect primary election was conducted by the party on Thursday.
The 360 delegates of the party all queued behind Saliu to contest in the election.
Speaking after the primary, Saliu expressed gratitude to the party and other aspirants.
He pledged to lead the party to victory and also assured of running a human development based government if elected.
He said, "After getting elected by the grace of God, serious efforts will be geared towards making the party very stable and I will also address the issue of members that have cultivated the habit of selling out SDP during elections.
"We are also very happy that the dissolution of the State Working Committee of our party has been declared an act of nullity today by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of Abuja Federal High Court.
"We are all at peace that our own group has been officially recognized as the authentic faction of SDP with today's court declaration that the status quo should remain.
"I cannot but appreciate Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye for saving our party from being deregistered by INEC. There wouldn't have been any SDP today if not for the heroic victory of Hon. Adefisoye to represent Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency."
The Nigerian Army, 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Barracks, Ondo State, have rescued two kidnapped victims in the state.
The victims, Aremo Abiodun, a 50-year-old driver, and Agnes Afogun, 50-year-old trader were both rescued in Ugbe Akoko.
The victims were travelling from Ugbe to Simerin Village for a business transaction when they were waylaid and seized by the kidnappers.
The gunmen had demanded a sum of N30m from the husband of Mrs Afogun before they would be released.
Speaking on their freedom, Acting Assistant Director, Army to Public Relations in Ondo State, Mr Ayorinde Omojokun, told SaharaReporters that they tracked down the location of the hoodlums with the support of the IGP-IRT team at Iboropa forest.
He explained that the two victims were rescued from the kidnappers' den and no ransoms was paid for their release.
Omojokun added that a Dane gun and machetes were recovered from the hoodlums, who took to their heels after noticing that security were very close on them.

Adeleye who assured that that criminal activity will be reduced to the barest minimum with the recruitment of the corps, saying the state government has been giving all necessary assistance to ensure the take-off of the corps.
The Commandant who also warned criminals to steer off from the state disclosed that the state government has procured about 20 Hulu vans and special dogs to combat crimes in the state.
According to him, the recruits would be posted to strategic places across the state, disclosing that offices of the corps would be located in every local government areas in the state.
He expressed satisfaction with the performance of the new recruit, urging them no to compromise in protecting their lands against criminals.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to governor Akeredolu on Security matters, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo also commended the leadership of the agency for successfully driving the government vision for Amotekun.
He assured that the state government will always be ready to give necessary assistance to the corps in combating crimes.
Ahead of the Ondo State governorship election, leaders of opposition parties in the state have said that they would wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had fixed October 10, 2020 for the state’s governorship election.
No fewer than 17 political parties have indicated interest to participate in the exercise where the APC and Peoples Democratic Party are viewed as the ‘frontliners’.
Biyi Poroye, Chairman of Mega Party of Nigeria, told SaharaReporters that some of the opposition parties were already coming together under 'Emerging Political Platform' to take back power from the APC during the poll.
On his part, Alex Adeniyi, Chairman of the African Action Congress in Ondo State, rejected the view that only the APC and the PDP were the party to beat in the governorship election.
Adeniyi said that the AAC would participate actively in the exercise, adding that the party has continued to be the third force with its following and would wrestle power from the APC in the state.
He said, "As a political party with great ideology, we are capitalising on the failures of the two most corrupt political parties (both APC and PDP) who had held sway in the state since the return of democracy in 1999.
"We intend to tell the residents of the state that we can always do away with these two known parties because they have all failed us and we don't need them anymore.
"We need a political party with ideology that would bring our dead industries back to life and where education would remain our best legacy and security of lives and properties will matter in governance.
"Since AAC is here, we are ready for the governorship poll and it is not going to be about APC and PDP alone as people are tired of the main parties because it’s now like a game of changing the cover of the same old bottle."
Chairman of Zenith Labour Party, Joseph Akinlaja, while speaking on the issue, said the party had picked its candidate to show readiness for the governorship election.
He explained that the ZLP do not view the APC and PDP as the main contenders in the election, noting that the outcome of the election would shock the two political parties.
In his own reaction, Mr Oladele Olugbemi Ogunbameru, Acting Chairman of Social Democratic Party, said the party was not interested in discussing other political parties participating in the election.
He noted that the SDP was being strategic ahead of the election as more aspirants were reaching out to contest on its platform.
Other political parties expected to field candidates in the election include Action Alliance, African Democratic Congress, Young Progressives Party, Labour Party, among others.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 17 out of the 18 registered political parties will be contesting the October 10, 2020 Ondo state governorship election.
In a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, the Commission equally urged the 14 political parties that nominated candidates for the Edo election to comply with the rules and regulations guiding canvassing for votes.
“A total of 17 of the 18 registered political parties notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of their intention to conduct party primaries for the Ondo Governorship election fixed for 10th October 2020. Only the Boot Party did not give any notification of its intention to conduct primaries for the Ondo Governorship election. This is in compliance with section 85 (1) of the Electoral Act, which makes it mandatory for registered political parties to give the Commission at least 21 days’ notice of any Congress or meeting convened for the purpose of nominating candidates for any of the elective offices specified in the Act.
“Details of the political parties and their calendar of Congresses/Primaries (including dates and modes of primaries) have been published on the Commission’s website and social media platforms.
“By Section 87 (2) of the Electoral Act, political parties have the exclusive discretion to determine the procedure for the nomination of candidates which shall be by Direct or Indirect primaries and all the 17 political parties notified the Commission of their intention to conduct Indirect primaries for the nomination of their candidates.
“Political parties are reminded that they are required to submit a comprehensive list of all the delegates eligible to participate in the primaries at least seven days before the scheduled date. The INEC portal for uploading nomination forms will open on July 21 and close on at 6pm on July 28, 2020. We urge political parties not to wait till the last day before submitting the names of their nominated candidates as
“Political parties must observe all the health protocols and guidelines made available to them by the Commission, the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the State Government. They must also enforce the policy of “No Mask, No Voting” in their primaries,” the Commission warned.
On Edo governorship election, the Commission noted: “14 political parties conducted primaries and nominated their candidates for the Edo governorship election holding on Saturday September 19, 2020. Going by the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election, campaign by political parties in public commenced on June 21, 2020 and ends on September 17, 2010 i.e. 24 hours before polling day as enshrined in Section 99 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as emended).
“Political parties are hereby reminded that in canvassing for votes, they must comply with the Commission’s policy on Conducting Elections in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic as well as the Regulations and Guidelines governing same. They must also comply with the guidelines issued by health authorities.
“At the same time, parties are enjoined to conduct issue-based campaigns in accordance with the Regulations and Guidelines issued by the Commission. They should appeal to their supporters to shun inflammatory rhetoric and disruptive behaviour capable of breaching the peace.
“The election is an opportunity for the people of Edo State to choose among the 14 candidates in the contest. The Commission is concerned that as campaigns begin, campaign councils rather than candidates and party manifestoes are taking centre stage. The election should be a contest of ideas and programmes for the people of Edo to make informed decisions for the development of their State,” It noted.
Giving update on the Nasarawa Central State Constituency bye-election, the Commission revealed that; “Two political parties, the APC and the PDP, have conducted their primaries and nominated candidates using the dedicated portal for the bye-election. The personal particulars, including academic qualifications of the candidates have been pasted in the INEC Nasarawa Local Government Area (LGA) office in Nasarawa State and uploaded on the Commission’s website.”
Some members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State on Friday, staged a protest against the alleged move by some chieftains of the party to doctor the list of delegates for the party’s primary, coming up on July 22, 2020.
Specifically, the protesters alleged that the Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Agboola Ajayi, who recently decamped to the party, was attempting to bribe members of the panel to replace names of the delegates across the 203 wards of Ondo State to favour him.
The protesters also alleged that some of Ajayi’s campaign members, Dr. Kola Ademujimi and a House of Assembly member representing Idanre, Mr Festus Akingbaso, to have been at the hotel with members of the election panel while other aspirants were locked out.
One of the protesters said, ” We want equity and justice, we want this primary to be free and fair and we don’t want the committee to compromise the standard. That is why we are protesting. We don’t want anyone to cut corners, we want to have free and fair primary so that whoever wins will have our full support at the October election.”
The Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Zadok Akintoye, who confirmed the protest, said he could not authenticate the allegation against Ajayi.
However, the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Mr Tope Okeowo, denied the allegations against his boss, saying some people might be sponsored to malign Ajayi’s name. He said the deputy governor could not be a party to such an activity.
“The governor is not a desperate politician, he is a lawyer and knows the rules of the game, the allegation of the protesters is nothing but falsehood against the person of the deputy governor. I can tell you it is not true,” Okeowo stated.
The ongoing move to impeach Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Agboola Ajayi, has been stalled following refusal of the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Olaranwaju Akeredolu, to set up a seven-man investigative panel.
A total of 14 lawmakers signed an impeachment notice against Ajayi.
Speaker Oleyelogun informed Justice Akeredolu that setting up of the panel was in line with section 188 (5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
A letter to the CJ and signed by the Speaker reads: “By the Resolution of the House today pursuant to Section 188 (3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution as amended it was resolved that the allegations be investigated forthwith.
“It is in line with the above that request that you set up the 7-man panel to conduct the investigation as resolved by the Honourable House and the Panel, shall soon as possible, report back to the House.”
But the Justice Akeredolu, in a letter dated July 9 and addressed to the Speaker, said the lawmakers have not completed the constitutional process that would lead the Speaker to invite her to set up an investigative panel as stipulated by the Constitution.
Akeredolu said she also received a letter from Kayode Olatoke SAN that the matter of the impeachment of Ajayi was subjudice.
Fourteen members of the Ondo State House of Assembly, who signed the "impeachment notice" of the state Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, were bribed to begin the process, SaharaReporters has gathered.
It was gathered on Tuesday that the members were paid a sum of 10 million naira each to ensure Ajayi was removed from his position.
The 14 members who received the kickback were Samuel Aderogboye, Festus Adefioye, Oluwole Emmanuel, Olajide Olamide, Gbegude Ololade, Adeyemi Olayemi, Muhammed Oladele and Abioun Falaye.
Others were Simeon Borokini, Falemu Olusegun, Akintomide Akinrogun, Oloyede Olusols, Abayomi Akinruntan and Towase Kuti.
The meeting was spearheaded by the Ondo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Ade Adetimehin, who donated the cash to the lawmakers.
Findings revealed that Victor Olabintan, the Special Adviser on Political Affairs to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was also part of the plot to unseat the deputy governor.
Investigation revealed that the Assembly members were promised other compensations by the governor.
SaharaReporters learned that 6 out of the 14 state Assembly members were first contacted to commence the impeachment at the floor of the Assembly.
The six members were promised N5 million by Mr Adetimehin for the job. The second batch of eight lawmakers secretly got N10 million each to join others in carrying out the impeachment.
One of the lawmakers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity with SaharaReporters, confirmed that the disparity in the bribe caused a disagreement among the lawmakers.
He said those who got the bribe swore an oath of secrecy to maintain their loyalty with the governor in the move to impeach Ajayi from office.
The source said, "After others lawmakers knew that their colleagues involved in the plot got more bribe than them, they protested and almost backed out but the governor and the party chairman quickly intervened.
"It was later resolved that those who had earlier got five million naira be paid an additional five million naira each.
"Before they collected the money, they had to sign a paper, which already contained the names of the beneficiaries. They also swore to an oath that they won't back out of the plans.”
Akogun Olugbenga Omole, the House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Information, declined to comment on the issue. Adetimehin could not be reached on Tuesday night to react to the report as well.
Agboola Ajayi, Ondo State Deputy Governor, says the impeachment plot against him will fail.
Ajayi spoke with SaharaReporters on Monday night.
Fourteen members of the state House of Assembly had on Tuesday reportedly served Ajayi a notice of impeachment.
The allegations levied against the deputy governor include gross misconduct, financial recklessness, abandonment of office, official duty and other assignments among others.
SaharaReporters gathered that nine other members of the Assembly have pulled out from the plot.
The Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Iroju Ogundeji, and the Majority Leader, Jamiu Maito, were parts of the nine members that refused to sign the impeachment notice.
Others included Favour Tomomowo, Rasheed Elegbeleye, Festus Akingbaso, Adewale Adewinle, Samuel Edmisan, Tomide Akinribido and Success Torhukerijor.
The Assembly has twenty-six members and would require 18 members (two-third) to successfully perfect the impeachment.
But Ajayi told SaharaReporters that he had yet to be served the impeachment notice by members of the State House of Assembly contrary to reports.
He said he would consider the impeachment notice as a rumour since he had not been "served officially".
He said, "It is a kangaroo impeachment notice and it is even dead on arrival and I don't know how the Assembly wants to go about it.
"I have not been officially served a copy of the impeachment notice and people are already reporting it.”
Recall that Ajayi had approached a Federal High Court in Abuja to halt his impeachment proceedings by members of the state House of Assembly.
The Deputy Governor in the suit filed by his lawyer, Mr I Olatoke sought the enforcement of his fundamental human rights and freedom of association.
The atmosphere in the Ondo State House of Assembly complex is now tensed as members served impeachment notice on the deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi.
Fourteen members of the Assembly signed the impeachment notice on Tuesday afternoon.
This came as nine members disassociated themselves from the process.
In a document seen by SaharaReporters, the Assembly members accused Ajayi of gross misconduct.
Ajayi is accused of abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office and petition for defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party.
The motion for serving the deputy governor the impeachment notice was read by the Assembly Clerk, Mr Bode Adeyelu, during plenary on Tuesday.
Bamidele Oleyelogun, Speaker of the Assembly, said he received the allegations against the deputy governor but failed to mention the sources of the allegations at the plenary.
Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly are currently going ahead with impeachment process against the deputy governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi.
The lawmakers, who resumed from a one month recess on Tuesday, immediately embarked on the process to remove Ajayi from office after he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party from the All Progressives Congress in June.
Nine lawmakers loyal to Ajayi withdrew from participating in the impeachment process.
Ajayi had earlier dragged the Assembly to court over the planned impeachment believed to be instigated by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
As plot to impeach him thickens, Agboola Ajayi, deputy governor of Ondo State, has approached a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to stop the impeachment process.
Ajayi in an originating summon on his fundamental human rights sought the declaration of the court to restrain members of the state's House of Assembly from impeaching him as deputy governor.
SaharaReporters obtained the copies of the court documents on Monday, which was filed by Agboola's lawyer, Barrister I. Olatoke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
He also wants the court to stop the Assembly members from using the Department of State Services and the Ondo Commissioner of Police in intimidating the lawmakers loyal to him in the plan to impeach him.
The deputy governor is also praying the court to compel all security agents joined in the suit to pay him the sum of N1bn for breach of his fundamental rights.
Already, there are fears that members of the state's House of Assembly might begin the process of impeaching Ajayi this week following his continued crisis with Governor Akeredolu.
Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo State, has recovered from COVID-19.
He made the announcement less than 24 hours after his estranged deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, asked him to hand over government to him after 21 days as provided by the constitution because he was in self-isolation.
The Police command in Ondo has vowed to ensure the prosecution of all reported cases of rape in the state.
He said that the Police was working hard to contain the rising cases of rape in the country and assured that anyone arrested would not go unpunished.
“Rape is a crime against God and humanity and no rapists will be allowed to continue to perpetrate such heinous crime in the society,” the command’s spokesman said.
Leo-Ikoro urged parents to live up to their responsibility in the education and upbringing of their children, particularly to educate them on how to relate with strangers or relatives who could take advantage of them.
He also advised parents to desist from leaving their little female children with neighbours, strangers or even family relatives who are of the opposite sex to avoid the children being molested.
“Rape is being committed by people who cannot control their sexual urge or people who are doing it for ritual purposes, who can be family friends, relatives, neighbours or strangers.
“Parents have a role to play by educating the little children not to accept gifts from strangers or even family relatives who could lure them into the evil acts.
“Parents also need to monitor the movement of their adults girls, know the friends they keep and also moderate their dressing against half-naked outfits which could attract opposite sex,” he added.
Ifedayo Abegunde, the Secretary to the Ondo State Government, has resigned his position.
Mr Abegunde, who tendered his resignation letter on Monday morning, told SaharaReporters that he resigned his position for "personal reasons".
He revealed that he had tried his best for the Governor Rotimi Aleredolu-led government and it was time for him to leave.
He said, "I have resigned from the government and I am no longer a member of the cabinet.
"I will make further comment when the time is ripe for me to talk on resignation."
However, sources close to Mr Abegunde disclosed that there had been a frosty relationship between him and the governor.
One of the sources disclosed that the SSG would soon join the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the October 10governorship election in the state.
