In August of 2018, a British man mysteriously died in a Ubon Ratchathani prison in Thailand.

The United Kingdom Foreign confirmed that Kevin Smitham, a British citizen had been found on the grounds of the prison.
Smitham had been 51 years old and he was from Nottingham. He had been awaiting trial for almost a year after the alleged murder of his wife, Kendra Smitha, age 29.
The couple had been staying in Ubon with the wife's parents for the Songkran Festival. This is the festival where Thais throw water at each and slap talcum powder on each other. The festival is the Thai New Year and they splash water on each other to represent a cleansing. It is usually on the 13th, 14th, and 15th of April.
The neighbors has found her body under a blanket on April 16th.
Smitham's body was found near a toilet in the prison's perimeter. Nobody knows how he died.
In 2019, The Foreign Office was the British government body that had confirmed the death. A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said that the staff of the Foreign Office are giving the Smitham family support and advice. The family has stayed in touch with the Thai authorities.
Before the unfortunate murder, they had been living in Pattaya, a well-known resort town on the east coast of Thailand, where the wife was known as a fitness enthusiast.
According to Ubon police, Smitham confessed to killing his wife after her body was found bruised and naked. After she refused to have sex with him, he then flew into a jealous rage and accused of having affairs.
Watcharapol Pimwong, a police inspector general, a Det Udom (town and district in Ubon) deputy police chief, was told by the man that he did not intend to kill her.
They had been out drinking beer until late. During the eating and drinking, they had suddenly begun arguing because he wanted to have intercourse with her.
Mrs. Smitham did not want to have sex and this caused the man to be jealous. He then attacked her and kicked her many times on the face and body.
