In the Nakhon Ubon Ratchathani district of Ubon, the police arrested three men for stealing wires and cables from many spots and bringing them to junk shops to sell. Police Colonel Thanapan Padungkan had recently made this announcement at a press conference recently.

Thammasat Buachoom, 38 years old, was the first member of this gang to be arrested on January 7th, 2021 by a police officer that had been on patrol. This police officer had seen the alleged suspect on a sidecar motorcycle on Soi Chaeng Sanit.

This gang member had a sack of wires in the sidecar and a roll of cables around his neck. The police then detained him for questioning.

According to the police, Thammasat admitted that he and two other men in the gang had taken the wires and cables that were in telecommunication firms and Provincial ELettrcity Authority areas. They would cut the wires and cable then junk shops would buy them.

The other gang members were Narong Pansnathia and Santi Samranwong.

In Ubon Ratchathani, five months ago in 2020, a teacher was charged with sexually abusing. He allegedly paid the students for sexual acts.

Stories about sexual abuse are not usually reported in the Thai media because there is a taboo about the subject of sexual abuse.

5 boys, aged 11 to 12, were allegedly sexually abused by a Ubon teacher on several occasions. He may have paid them 200 baht for each sexual act.

The Royal Thai Police and the officers of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security have interviewed students.

A Royal Thai Police spokesperson believes that the teacher abused students about 10 times. She says that the teacher has been charged for abusing children under 15 with or without having consent. The maximum penalty for sexually abusing underage children is 20 years in prison.

Recently, a Ubon Ratchathani man was arrested for allegedly smuggling 12 illegal migrants from Laos.

This group was comprised of 7 females and 5 males.

On a Friday night in January 2021, Prane (the last name was withheld) was nabbed by officers of the Thai Navy's Mekong Patrol Operation Command. Pranee is from the Sri Muang Mai district in Ubon. He was arrested near the border of Laos in the Khong Chiem district.

One of the 12 migrants said that they had come from many cities from the Champasak district in Laos. They had paid an agency in Thailand 4,000 to 5,000 baht per person to get them to Bangkok to get some jobs.

The alleged smuggler and the migrants are going to be questioned at the Khong Chiam Police Station.
