Fight against poverty and malnutrition during pandemic
India has footprinted its name and fame in most of the field globally from handling the terror attacks , maintaining the good relationship with the neighbouring countries and other countries also , to legally safegaurding the rights of a citizen and mostly it is the socially and economically weaker sections . More importantly ,while focusing on the poor sections of the society , malnutrition and poverty have taken their seats at the peak. Malnutrition is a condition where children below 5 years of age remain undernourished leading to the child stunting and child wasting which inturn are the causes of the child mortality . Malnutrition affects the chances of survival for children , increases their susceptibility to illness , reduces their ability to learn and thereby makes them less productive in their later life . It is estimated that malnutrition is a contributing factor in about one-third of all the deaths of children In the recent past in september 2019 , 'RASHTRIYA POSHAN MAAH' was observed that urged people to support the governmental nutrition campaign to ensure a healthier future for women and children . There is a target set named 'ZERO HUNGER' to ensure that the world acheives 'zero hunger by 2030'-one of the substantial goals laid out by the United Nations.Although acheiving zero hunger requires not only addressing the hunger but also the associated aspect of Malnutrition i,e,food and nutrition.
This is the time , where whole world is facing the threat and thus struggling for their survival. The change in food patterns , poverty , lack of sanitation and clean drinking water , migration , gender injustice , lacunae at policy level , lax implementation are some of the factors for malnutrition. FAO estimates that 194.4 million people in India are undernourished(14.5% of the total population).India ranks 102 out of 117 countries in the global hunger Index 2019. According to ICMR(Indian Council of Medical Research) malnutrition is the major risk factor for the death in children. Globally , a furthur 6000 under- five children could die each day due to reductions in the routine health coverage during pandemic , the UNICEF has warned in early may , adding that this would be accompanied by the child wasting which is the strong predictor of the child mortality. With lack of food during lockdown the malnutrition rate is going to increase and ultimately childern would be more vulnerable to COVID-19 leading to the high mortality rate in the country . The centres setup by the Integrated Child Development services ,the government programme that provides food , pre- school education , primary health care , immunization to children under 6 years and their mothers. There is provison for 'One Nation one Ration card'technology where the card holder can buy the subsidised food grains from anywhere in India which is actually a good intiative taken up by the centre . The 'ATMANIRBHAR BHARAT' has funded Rs.1.70 lakh crores for the poor to help them fight the battle against COVID-19 which may help them upto certain level to overcome the present worst scenario.
There are certain governmental schemes like NHM,mid-day meal scheme ,Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahayog Yojana , National Nutritional Policy 1993 which can have the multisectoral appraoch towards reducing and gradually eliminate/abridge the malnutrition . Administration should look after the improvements which includes clean and safe drinking water , proper sanitation , reduces the rate of open defecation , improving the women's status and the agricultural productivity , prioritizing the girld child's health becomes necessary , as and when she attains the adolescence and get married and have kids even they will get affected according to the health status of the mother. Hence she should be taken more care such that she should not have been getting affected by malnutrition. In addition to all these provisons , decentralization of powers is necessary where the panchayats should be given the power to have a say in welfare schemes and diversification where Public Distribution System should be diversified to include the millets. Whatever the schemes /and provisons given by the center/and state should reach the doorsteps of the poor/needy ones and the transperancy in the public administartion and through the enactments of RTI , the weaker sections of the society should know their rights and claim for the same in case they have not been met .

Growth vs environment: a controversy
our surroundings where we dwell and adapt to make a living is called environment. State of an environment truly depends on the species inhabiting it . The limit is unreasonably crossed due to the manmade effects like global warming, deforestation etc.
In earlier times ,mornings were filled with fog, now we see thick fumes of smoke instead. Industrialisation has a great share in environmental destruction .this is where we come to the topic environment vs growth.
Industrial and economic growth cannot be sacrificed because daily life of millions of people depend on this. Growth has helped a lot in eradicating poverty in numerous places . Starvation gets uncontrolled due to the economic growth. But the side effects of industrial growth are increasing day by day proposing a potential risk to life itself on earth.
Environment changes on Earth due to growth are very evident. Sparrows chirping around houses was a common sight in the olden Times. man made changes affected birds a lot long concrete buildings, misleading headlights, high intensity mobile radiations, etc can be pointed out as reasons. our society is literally changing into concrete jungles.
When man sought expansions of his industries and establishments ,he did not even a glance at the destroying environment . Not only other animals , but humans itself are at considerable risk like lack of drinking water ,calamities like flood, drought , global warming etc. which are after effects of unexpected changes in nature caused by men.
Continuous deforestation has resulted in less amount of oxygen ,more heat and soil erosion. The increased use of chlorofluorocarbons have led to the destruction of ozone layer which protect us from ultraviolet rays . Greenhouse gases which are supposed to be protective have turned to hazardous gases threatening .
On account of development and population growth the environment has seen mass destruction that cannot be set right at least in the years to come. The reason is that we are are facing twin crisis economic and environmental as they are highly interrelated. Climate change presents the greatest threat to sustaining high growth . Destruction caused by natural calamities only lead to economic costs and limiting economic growth .
Government only consider what is right for the people in the present times ,the after effects which are gonna be more severe is is mostly neglected .when it comes to global aspects no country rich or poor has the environmental motivation to conserve and preserve the nature
As per the forest guidelines ,ten saplings must be planted for every tree cut but there are no strict enforcement leading to the situation where everyone ignores it. No community or agency is appointed to supervise if these guidelines are fulfilled . We live in a society where men cuts off trees to grow roots of industries and establishments. We need to realise the true fact that environment and growth are the two sides of the same coin ,rather than trying to sacrifice one, we need to to learn to protect both.
environment impact assessment is a process of evaluating the likely environmental impacts of a proposed developmental project .but the freedom of the community is limited to promote more development of the society. It is a false perception that economic growth leads without environmental considerations . Our environment has always nurtured man and helped men grow in leaps and bounds and reach his goals . But if we don't set right the imbalance created, it will lead to a severe condition where it cannot be restored and all effort of growth will end up in vain.

A fight against COVID 19
It's a international health emergency, a pandemic, we all are trying hard to fight against it. At Sanjeevani hospital NTPC Singrauli, we are holding awareness session for our contact workers, our sanitary workers and health workers. We have developed isolation wards and taking all necessary steps to safeguard our folks.
Home Quarantine , thermal screening at gates, video conferencing with Apollo doctors, training by VC, holding mock drills, running respiratory clinic.
Despite of being in remote location and with limited resources we are trying our best to contain this pandemic. We are having motivation and support of our management and continuous guidance from our Corporate cell. Corporate medical cell has gone extra miles to provide us with all necessary materials like PPE kits, developing SOPs for our various processes and coordinating informative webinars for health workers.
We are country's biggest power producers, hence need to be extra vigilant because ' if we stop , the country stops' .
A special mention of our Power engineers who are disposing their duties with utmost sincerity even in this crisis.
May God have mercy on us soon.
