Question: "Why is our history not taught to us in Pakistan Studies?". The answer is, it was...until 1981.
When examining surviving Pakistani history textbooks written between 1947 to 1980, all of them begin with the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation from 3000 BCE rather than the invasion of Sindh by Mohammad bin Qasim in 712. These books contained the collective history of the region Pakistan was in (the Indus Valley), and a decent effort was made to connect students to the land of Pakistan. The nation was viewed as a melting pot of different people and languages. Most importantly, the Pakistan Movement was described as the Muslim League had defined it; as a defence against Brahmin domination.
That all changed in 1981. Under the direction of General Zia ul Haq, the University Grants Commission issued a notice to all prospective textbook authors specifying that new history textbooks were to "induce pride for the nation's past, enthusiasm for the present, and unshakable faith in the stability and longevity of Pakistan".
To eliminate all possible ambiguities to this approach, Pakistani authors were given the following directive:
"To demonstrate that the basis of Pakistan is not to be founded in racial, linguistic, or geographical factors, but, rather, in the shared experience of a common religion. To get students to know and appreciate the Ideology of Pakistan, and to popularize it with slogans. To guide students towards the ultimate goal of Pakistan - the creation of a completely Islamised State."
In fulfillment of this directive, all of Pakistan's ancient history was either removed or simply relegated to a single insignificant chapter, with no emphasis being put that it was our history. Secondly, the invasion of Sindh by Mohammad bin Qasim was given high importance and was considered as the origin of "Pakistani history". The most disturbing aspect was the redefinition of the Pakistan Movement from the Muslim League's definition, to "a movement for Islamic revival", which mirrored the same concepts and politics of Jamaat-i-Islami. All textbooks were now being centered around the following themes, of which none were historically accurate:
1. The 'Ideology of Pakistan', both as a historical force which motivated the movement for Pakistan as well as its raison d'etre.
2. The depiction of Jinnah as a man of orthodox religious views who sought the creation of a theocratic state.
3. A move to establish the ulema as genuine heroes of the Pakistan Movement.
4. An emphasis on ritualistic Islam, together with a rejection of liberal interpretations of the religion and generation of communal antagonism.
> Destruction of Jinnah's speeches
On top of this, General Zia ul Haq ordered many of Jinnah's speeches and audio recordings held at National Archives and Radio Pakistan to be destroyed. These speeches and audio recordings were those that promoted secular, democratic ideals for Pakistan. One famous audio recording was the 11 August Speech, in which Jinnah famously said: "You are free; you are free to go to your temples. You are free to go to your mosques or to any other places of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion, caste or creed—that has nothing to do with the business of the state.” By sheer luck, the only reason why Pakistan knows of this speech today is thanks to a audio copy that was stored by BBC Radio Archives.
> Collapse of Education System
Prior to the 90s, everyone attended government schools. The advent of private schools began when Zia implemented his education reforms in the 80s. After 1982, government schools prioritised stuffing student’s minds with paranoia, parochialism, and hyper-religiosity. Students were seen as "young foot soldiers" to preserve and protect a praetorian, ideological state of which they could eventually become a part. To produce students with empathy, moral sense, and capacity to reason independently was not just unnecessary, it was undesirable. Almost never were students told to respect a queue, obey traffic rules, and desist from littering. Exam cheating and degree buying, though widespread, was not decried as a moral crime. Machoism was promoted as a virtue, not treated as a disease. Nowhere was a student taught to appreciate those who are different culturally, ethnically, religiously, in physical appearance, or perhaps ability-disability. Families with money almost immediately withdrew from government schools because of this reason, and by the 90s the era of private schools began.
> Zia Generation vs Junoon Generation
The legacy of Zia was the generation he left behind and what negative effects it had on Pakistan 20 years later. The lost Zia generation (school children of the 1980s) became young adults in the early 2000s. Is it any coincidence that Pakistan's most troubling years of suicide bombings and extremism came between 2002 to 2015? This was the period the Zia generation took control of the country, both politically and socially. No

Banning YouTube
On Wednesday the supreme court of Pakistan has revealed to ban the YouTube. This decision will be proved as the worst decision ever taken by the SCP. YouTube has always been a helping hand for students, teachers and thinkers to learn, teach and explore their ideas across the world. In this tough time of pandemic the students are learning online from YouTube. A teacher makes the video lectures and uploads them on YouTube to educate the students across the world. The inspirational people from the whole world share their ideas and experiences on YouTube, the universities are now uploading their lectures online owing to covid-19, the whole globe is taking steps forward but we are still behind by making these sorts of decisions.
Therefore I urge government of Pakistan to ponder on this matter, think positively and act effectively.

Kind of HUMAN, but not treated as a human being
Transgender, who face discrimination, harassment, and bullying – from adults and kids alike – simply for existing. Moreover, they are left abandoned by their families or compelled to escape from home to join close-knit transgender communities. Why is this so? After all, Allah has made them that was not their sin to be born this way. besides, they deserve the same level of respect and love, as we do.
In contrast, the transgender community has fallen victim to harassment and sexual violence by the police and other powerful men. A very brutal, yet, accurate reflection of the problems faced by the transgender community is the recent ‘Sialkot incident’. There, a group of men from a local gang took hostage of several transgender persons and violated them throughout the night. The victims were brutally tortured, gang-raped, made to drink the urine of their tormentor, and burned with cigarettes. Besides, abuse was taped by the tormentors themselves and leaked onto social media to further embarrass the victims.
Apart from harassment, the transsexual community falls victim to a lack of educational and work opportunities. Since the transgender community is not really accepted in Pakistan, they have limited opportunities in comparison to everyone else. As a result, the seed of poverty begins to grow that results in homelessness or to become street beggars, dancers, and in the worst-case- prostitutes…
Then society blames them for spoiling the peace of nature, and what to say on the peace of those innocent hearts that you have crumpled the whole life???
A girl is always compared to an angel…
A boy is always compared to a bold character…
Then why not a transgender can be called as an angelic bold person!!!
WOMEN: Assets or Liabilities?
We are all born women and men. These are basic categories of human existence; acceptance of them unites religions and cultures. They are invaluable categories of social organization then why a boy is widely viewed as an asset; a future breadwinner, and caregiver who will not only look after his parents when they become old but also responsible for their new breed generation. A girl, on the other side, is seen as a liability, just because their parents are pressured by society to pay dowries when their daughters marry?
In contrast, Male education effects only his family while, when a woman is educated it can have a ripple effect within a family and across generations. Besides, investing in girl’s education yield a tremendous effect over a rotten society because when they know their rights it eventually develops the confidence to claim them properly. Moreover, they will also be less likely to become a victim in human trafficking. Indeed, when they are uneducated they become their prioritized target. Infact, women are the custodians of the values that sustain our society. How we see and treat them will determine the kind of future we create for the next generation. Now, it’s high time to stop debating about their worth and start seeing them as they should be: a valuable asset in society. Women's rights is not a women’s issue. It is human rights.
In addition to this, Women always endure themselves as homemakers and breadwinner as well if needed; however, in our society women are seen as a burden on the household and thankless responsibility. They are perceived as offspring who, unlike the sons, would not carry on the family’s name. Instead, a great amount of money would have to be arranged for their wedding which would benefit the homes of their husband’s families. apart from this, women contribute an essential part than any other gender. they take care of her family, nourish them, protect them like an umbrella in heavy rain, she does not get back in the hard knocks to step outside the home to earn and support her family without waiting for someone's help.
She's an asset, not a liability. She's the backbone. She's the one, not the one of many. She's worth a commitment. She's there to help, not to hinder. Let a woman be who God intended her to be, and your life will be better for it.
What happens when you raise voice against injustice?
While living in the 21st century, when some things are so transparent and open, the rural citizenry of Sindh has its own woeful tales to tell. They are hidden from urbanites, different in contours but similar in theme – extortion, abuse of political power, violations of laws and regulations is what these stories vividly speak of. What makes these stories different is the undertone of rebellion and a search for the straight path instead of succumbing to the crooked and devious.
One significant case from rural Setharja is that of Jogi goth. On Saturday 16th of march 2020, the Family of a reputed teacher, at IBA Jacobabad, was allegedly attacked by despot for just a piece of land. He was not only hurled abused but also threatened to leave the bargain while there is no room for a fair negotiation or face dire consequences. Prior to this, a number of court trials were held for over 4 months to resolve the matter through the law, and finally, when they got possession, this tragic event occurred. Because some people took the law on themselves for a piece of land. Does the question rise that all this because the victim claims the possession of property that belongs to him? Or is that out of fear and for the sake of peaceful life, it is necessary to compromise with louts, who threats at gunpoint and ask to do anything, no matter how wrong it is?
Would we, who believe in nationalism and justice, have to see such a day of misery, when a reputed teacher was brutally beaten by some influential people of a village just for a piece of land that yet officially belongs to him. Was it because he raised his voice against injustice?
This might be the first time they tried to take his land but if measure precautions are not taken, next time he will be left for dead. If we don’t speak up today for the injustice and misery of this case or in general then when tomorrow it is our turn or of someone we care, there will be no one left to speak out against it.
Night Holds the Reality
I can't believe in myself being represented as a school topper, when I closed my eyes. It is actually a dream when I Slept and closed my physical eyes, jumped into the imaginaries and opened my eyes of mind.
I could see him [Mehrab] , sharing my ideas with him[My dream friend], gathering with one another, facing every moment with joy and prosperity. I could see our daily routine, We made ourselves ready for the School and went for the studies.
I could hear my name being repeated continuously. Being repeated by every corner of my surrounding. I could hear the praises, being sent for me. I see every member of the generation mentioning me in their advices.
In first, I could not find out the reason[reason of praises, reason of being repeated continuously, reason of being mentioned in everyone's advices]. I found myself thinking of , What would be the reason that has made me as important. I couldn't made myself capable of solving out the suspension. I found myself being confused but not helpless.
I could see myself gathering with him[Mehrab], discussing my confusion. He [Mehrab] made me clear that it was due to the boldness of me that made me so. I found him [ as a friend ] advising me," do focus on your career and study hard in upcoming days. Make yourself prevent from the social evils [drugs, robberies]." I could see myself firmly accepting and agreeing with him.
The days were badly surrounded by the environmental evils. It could appear almost everyone being involved in robberies and especially drugs. I could see several types of people being destroyed in drugs and I could see the person who dragged everyone in this evil.
It seemed to be the last days of school when everyone was appearing happily due to their numbers and ranks. I found out him[Mehrab] even happier than others due to me because I was on the top. He seemed to suggest me for a college but I couldn't seem to afford and I stayed. I found him [Mehrab] leaving me alone and going for seek of knowledge.
I found out myself being alone. Being alone due to those who used to be my friends and left. I found myself recalling the words that he[ Mehrab ] has suggested [ prevent yourself from the social evils ]. I kept thinking of the social evils and from there I couldn't find myself alone. I found out a partner who appeared to be an attractive one for the social evils.
I could see myself facing away from my career and following the new partner. I could see the heal of lonliness in that [ New Partner]. I couldn't help making gatherings with him. It seemed to be spending hours with the new partner. I could see him making me taste drug and making my mindset positive of drugs. I couldn't find his [Mehrab] advices and followed on. And afterall I became one of them [Drug addicts].
I could feel just fews days have passed and he[Mehrab] has returned. He returned holding a scholarship, based on my marks, for me. When he came to me , he found me talking with smoke, feast with the evils and playing with the tubes.
He mentioned me in his speech," HassanJan, I was stupid and my stupidity took me here to you. I have decided a bright future for you and you are of ruining your present."
I continued," Mehrab... Come and have a look. How happy I am with my new friends. Only you were missing. Come and join us, we all together will enjoy ."
Mehrab exclaimed with sorrow,"Uuh.... Old HassanJan. Wherever you are I am gonna miss you."
I could see him [ Mehrab] slapped me and went away...
Suddenly I woke up, and looked around. I found myself safe. I thanked God that it was just a dream but I thought for a while that ," If drug is this much dangerous in dream then how will it be in real life." I can not even imagine that.
In last, drug is deadly. Prevent yourself and your beloved from drug. Join hands together and raise voice for the drug mafias.
" We need a drug free Balochistan "
