I am currently in a holding cell...
Suffice to say I did not co-operate with the authorities and the detective kept her word. As far as they are concerned, my unwillingness to comply means that I am as good as guilty and that means money saved in investigations. The room is damp and although I can see the officers sharing a drink, I feel quite alone. My beautiful dress is wrinkled and my makeup is starting to itch. I wanted to ask for some water to wash off but I didn't think they had many sanitary options. Besides, my pride wouldn't allow it. I'd just wait until I got home. Speaking of home...
"Excuse me, when am I going home?"
They ignore me. As if i wasn't angry enough already.
"Hello!" I shout standing up, "When am I going home. I know my rights."
"Listen lady," a skinny man I know is named Greg answers. "You're not going anywhere." "It took some time for that to settle in. They couldn't keep me here right???
"Why not?" I ask.
"Because you're guilty and guilty people go to jail and stay there."
" Guilty? But I haven't even had a trial."
"That's just a formality. as far as we are concerned its signed and sealed."
"If you had played nice with the police, maybe you'd have a better defense. Whatever you told the investigator and only that has been given to your public defense lawyer."
"I'm sorry miss. My shift is over."
I sink onto the floor feeling dejected. Tears fight to pour out of my eyes but I don't want to give them the satisfaction. Why was I being treated like this?
