9 Catholic Priests Accused Of Child Sexual Abuse In US
The United States published a report that provides evidence that nine additional Catholic priests sexually abused children from the 1950s to the 1990s in Colorado Catholic churches.
The report was published by Attorney General Phil Weiser, according to ABC.
The late Rev. Charles B. Woodrich, known as Woody's father, and the other eight people were not previously identified in the original report, released in October 2019, based on a review of Church records in the dioceses of Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo.
Six of the newly named priests have already died, while others have previously been removed from the priesthood or have ceased worship. Woody's father was named after Woody's father a few years after his death in 1991, but his name was removed from the name earlier this year due to allegations against the priest.
The latest report looked at cases of abuse of 46 children by a total of 25 priests, 16 of whom were named in last year's report. Grounded allegations of sexual assault were made against them. A total of 212 children were found to have been abused by 52 diocesan priests between 1950 and 1999.
Both reviews, conducted by former U.S. Attorney Bob Troyer, did not address alleged abuses by priests from religious orders or those who came from other dioceses.
The investigation began after a Pennsylvania grand jury announced in 2018 that more than 300 priests had corrupted at least 1,000 children over 70 years, raising doubts about the extent of abuse in other states.
The Church established and funded a reparations program to provide benefits to people who have been mistreated by priests. It was managed by Kenneth Feinberg and Camilla Biros, who oversaw the payment of compensation to the victims of the 2012 Aurora Theater shootings and the 9/11 attacks.
According to the final report, the program allowed $ 7.3 million to be paid out to 79 people.

West-Nile-Virus-carrying mosquitoes detected in Tulsa
Authorities of the Tulsa Health Department (THD) confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus (WNV) in the mosquito samples collected from a trap in Tulsa County. As per WHO and the American Mosquito Control Association, there is no evidence that mosquitoes can transmit COVID-19, a virus that affects the respiratory system and spreads maximally via droplets when an infected person sneezes, coughs or talks. Mosquitoes can transmit viruses like WNV, and hence, people are recommended to use repellents containing DEET.
THD functions on an efficient budget to control mosquito populations by nationally-recognized mosquito surveillance programs which also helps to affirm the presence of mosquito-borne illnesses in the community. The target of the surveillance is to identify the presence of mosquitoes, to know its abundance, species, make a hazard appraisal, and give a premise to control. Control strategies incorporate larviciding and spraying when required. The mosquito surveillance has implemented new testing guidelines and is working to trap potential WNV positive mosquitoes as soon as possible. Every year since 2003, human cases of WNV disease are observed in Tulsa County. The virus infects human via mosquito bites, and the symptoms of this disease include headache, sudden onset of fever, muscle weakness and dizziness. Precautions to be taken are:
- Do not dump waste materials in stagnant water and drain out such items, so that mosquitoes do not get a place to breed.
- Use DEET containing, or CDC approved mosquito repellents.
- Ensure gutters are not clogged.
- Encourage people around you to dump and drain as well as use repellents.
