The health ministry on Thursday said that COVID 19 vaccination should not be given to pregnant and lactating women as they have not been part of any clinical trial of an anti-coronavirus vaccine so far. In letter to all states and Union territories, the ministry highlighted that under the emergency use authorisation, coronavirus vaccination is indicated only for 18 years and above. If required, COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines should be separated by an interval of at least 14 days. The letter written by Manohar Agnani, Additional Secretary, Union health ministry said that, "Interchangeability of COVID-19 vaccines is not permitted. Second dose should also be of the same COVID-19 vaccine which was administered as the first dose." The letter stated, "Pregnant and lactating women have not been a part of any COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial so far. Therefore, women who are pregnant or not sure of their pregnancy and lactating women should not receive COVID-19 vaccine at this time." It further states, "Following conditions are not contraindicated for COVID-19 vaccines - persons with past history of SARS-CoV-2 infection and or RT-PCR positive illness, history of chronic diseases and morbidities and immuno-deficiency, HIV, patients on immune suppression due to any condition." The Ministry has identified COVID-19 vaccination precautions and contraindications along with a comparative fact sheet for both vaccines - Covishield and Covaxin- containing vaccine platform details, physical specifications, dosage, cold-chain storage requirements, contraindications and minor AEFIs (adverse event following immunization). It is said that this data should be disseminated for ready reference to program managers at all levels and through them to cold-chain handlers and vaccinators. The Health Ministry cautioned against the administration of vaccine in the case of persons with a history of anaphylactic or allergic reaction to a previous dose of COVID-19 vaccine and persons with immediate or delayed onset of anaphylaxis or allergic reaction to vaccines or injectable therapies, pharmaceutical products, food items. On January 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch India's major COVID-19 vaccination campaign via video conferencing, even as sufficient doses of 'Covaxin' from Bharat Biotech and 'Covishield' vaccines from the Serum Institute have been distributed across the country to all states and Union territories. A person will experience mild AEFIs following vaccination for both the vaccines. In case of Covishied, some mild AEFI may occur like injection site tenderness, injection site pain, headache, fatigue, myalgia, malaise, pyrexia, chills and arthralgia and nausea. Some mild AEFIs in case of Covaxin include injection site pain, headache, fatigue, fever, body ache, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, dizziness-giddiness, tremor, sweating, cold, cough and injection site swelling. Paracetamol may be used to provide symptomatic relief from post vaccination adverse reactions.

The asteroid named 2020 SX3 is moving towards Earth. According to the NASA blog, the bad news is that this space rock is between 38 and 86 metres wide, which is the size of three double-decker buses. The good news is, with no risk of a direct impact, it will swing by Earth. It will be travelling 10.88 kilometres per second which is about 40,000 kilometres per hour. NASA reports that while the asteroid will travel 1.7 million kilometres away, it is close enough to be considered as a near-Earth (NEO) target. NASA explains, NEOs are comets and asteroids that have been nudged by the gravitational attraction of nearby planets into orbits that allow them to enter the Earths neighbourhood. The asteroid will be closest to earth on October 8. Blue Moon: When two full moons descend in one calendar month, a blue moon occurs and this event takes place once every two to three years. For the first time in 19 years, the lunar phenomenon will take place on October 31. But a blue moon is a rare and strange occurrence that falls on Halloween. For the first time in 19 years, on October 31st, sky watchers will see a rare blue moon. Until August 31, 2023, the unusual night sun will not be seen again and will not be seen again on Halloween until 2039. The lunar event does not shine blue, despite the name. If you were living in Western Australia, you might be able to see a blue moon, but anyone living in the central and eastern parts of Australia would miss it.
AI Approach Helps Identify New Drugs To Treat Coronavirus - Sakshi English

An Indian scientist and his team used Artificial Intelligence to recognise hundreds of new potential drugs that could be used to treat the novel coronavirus disease. Anandasankar Ray, a professor at the University of California, Riverside in the US asserted that There is an urgent need to identify effective drugs that treat or prevent COVID-19. He further added that, We have developed a drug discovery pipeline that identified several candidates." This study is published in the journal Heliyon, in the paper titled, Predicting novel drugs for SARS-CoV-2 using machine learning from a greater than 10 million chemical space. Anandasankar Ray said that As a result, drug candidate pipelines, such as the one we developed, are extremely important to pursue as a first step toward the systematic discovery of new drugs for treating COVID-19." He further added that,Existing FDA-approved drugs that target one or more human proteins important for viral entry and replication are currently high priority for repurposing as new COVID-19 drugs. The demand is high for additional drugs or small molecules that can interfere with both entry and replication of SARS-CoV-2 in the body. We have developed a drug discovery pipeline that identified several candidates. A graduate student in Ray 's laboratory, Joel Kowalewski used small numbers of previously identified ligands for 65 human proteins known to interact with SARS-CoV-2 proteins, including the ACE2 receptor. Kowalewski said that The 65 protein targets are quite diverse and also involved in many other diseases, including cancers, Besides the ongoing attempts to repurpose drugs against these targets, we were also interested in discovering new chemicals which are not currently well studied. Ray and Kowalewski said that "Our database will serve as a resource to quickly identify and evaluate safe treatment strategies for the novel coronavirus and other diseases where the same 65 target proteins are relevant. The COVID-19 pandemic inspired us, we expect our predictions from more than 10 million will speed up the discovery of drug in the battle against not only coronavirus but also a variety of other diseases." NASA's Juno Jupiter probe captured some of the rare views of the largest moon in the solar system. During the near flyby of Jupiter on Dec. 26, 2019, Juno mapped the northern polar regions of the icy Ganymede in infrared light, something that no other spacecraft has achieved before. The data collected by Juno using its Jovian Infrared Auroral Mapper (JIRAM) instrument display that the northern reaches of Ganymede are very different from the locations closer to the equator of the moon, which is larger than the planet Mercury. Ganymede is largely made up of h2o ice and it is bigger than the world Mercury. It is made in such a way to understand the evolution of the 79 Jovian Moons from the time of their creation to the present day. Ganymede has its own magnetic field and it is also the only moon in the solar program. On Earth, the magnetic field provides a mechanism for plasma (charged solar particles) to penetrate our atmosphere and create aurora. As Ganymede has no ambiance to hinder their growth, the surface of its poles is constantly bombarded with plasma from Jupiter's gigantic magnetosphere." Alessandro Mura, a Juno co-investigator at the National Institute for Astrophysics in Rome said that, "The JIRAM data indicate that the ice in and around Ganymede's north pole has been affected by plasma precipitation." He further added that, "It's a phenomenon that we've been able to know it for the first time with Juno, because we're able to see the North Pole in its entirety." The $1.1 billion Juno probe was launched in August 2011. It arrived at Jupiter in July 2016 and the main aim of this Juno Probe is to help researchers understand the composition, structure, formation, and evolution of the giant planet. Juno flies around Jupiter in a strongly elliptical orbit and gathers data during close passes that occur every 53.5 Earth days. The North Pole of Ganymede happened to be in Juno 's vision during December 2019 encounter. The mission team redirected the probe, allowing it to study the mysterious region with JIRAM and other instruments. The project team members said that, "Juno has obtained about 300 infrared photographs from a distance of approximately 62,000 miles (100,000 km). The photos have a resolution of approximately 14 miles (23 km) per pixel."
Huge Asteroid To Pass Earth On July 24 - Sakshi English

A massive asteroid will move past Earth on July 24, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has said. The asteroid named Asteroid 2020 ND will pass the living planet on Sunday. It is also likely that two other asteroids will pass Earth which NASA has named as 2016 DY30 and 2020 ME3. However, these asteroids don't pose a threat to Earth. Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) are currently defined based on parameters that measure the asteroids potential to make threatening close approaches to the Earth. Specifically, all asteroids with a minimum orbit intersection distance (MOID) of 0.05 au or less are considered PHAs, NASA said in a statement. Talking about Asteroid 2020 ND, it is 170 metre-long. Travelling at a speed of 48,000 kilometres per hour, it will be as close as 0.034 astronomical units (5,086,328 kilometres) to our planet. This distance categorises it as "potentially dangerous". According to NASAs Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS), 2016 DY30 will be as close as about 0.02306 astronomical units to Earth (3.4 million kilometres), adding its closest approach of the bigger asteroid will be on July 19 at 10:02 AM IST. The space agency has classified it as an Apollo asteroid because it crosses Earths path while travelling around the sun. The other asteroid, 2020 ME3 will be farther away from Earth when it reaches its closest distance to the planet at 02:51 AM IST the next day (July 21), CNEOS said. Its expected distance is about 0.03791 astronomical units (5.6 million kilometres). It has been labelled as an Amor asteroid as it does not cross Earths path and only flies close to Earth on several occasions.

WASHINGTON: After spending two months in orbit, NASA astronauts in SpaceX's first crewed flight who travelled to the International Space Station in May are expected to return to Earth on August 2. NASA announced it on Friday, July 17. U.S. astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley will gear up for the final benchmark test of SpaceX's so-called Demo-2 mission. It is a coordinated splashdown somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. It is NASA's first crewed mission from the US in nearly 10 years. Behnken is gearing up for his final spacewalk on July 21 ahead of prepping with Hurley to depart the space station, NASA has said. The NASA spokesperson said that weather forecasts will be calculated for the time and location of Crew Dragon's splashdown. The date has however not been confirmed. According to a report by an international news agency, NASA astronauts had to hitch rides into orbit aboard Russia's Soyuz spacecraft. The US space shuttle program had ended in 2011.
Watch: A Source Of Water Found On Mars - Sakshi English

Mysteries of the universe always grab the attention of not only those who have a love for space but also others. It is always a matter of interest to explore other planets in our solar system. Most of the people would love to watch either a new video or a photo from space that surfaces online. Now, the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft has captured some of the images of a spectacular carter present on the red planet, Mars. In the video, one could see icy Martian canyon known as the 'Korolev Crater'. According to the scientists, it is located in the northern lowlands of Mars, south of the large Olympia Undae dune field that partly surrounds Mars north polar cap. It is 82 kilometers across and at least 2 km deep. This crater is filled with water ice throughout the year. The water ice doesn't move in the Korolev Crater because the deepest part of this depression acts as a natural cold trap. Water ice goes from solid to gas with the low atmospheric pressure. The video has images taken from Mars Express' High-Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC). Here is the video of 'Flight over Korolev Crater on Mars.' The Crater was named after Russian rocket engineer and spacecraft designer Sergei Pavlovich Korolev (1907-1966) who is also known as the father of practical astronautics. He was involved in the development of the first Russian intercontinental rocket R7, the precursor of the modern Soyuz rockets that are still operated today and launching 'Laika' and the first human being, 'Yuri Gagarin' into space. The purpose of the footage released was to grow people's interest in traveling to Mars. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk wants to colonize Mars with Starship's Space Rocket business after the successful launch of two astronauts to the International Space Station. Earlier in the month, The Indian Space Research Organisations (ISRO) Mars Orbiter Mission has captured the image of Phobos, the closest and biggest moon of Mars. The image was captured on July 1st when the Mars Orbiter Mission was 7,200 km away from Mars and 4,200 km away from Phobos. The Mars Orbiter Mission is also known as Mangalyaan, a space probe orbiting Mars since 24th September 2014. ISRO launched MOM on 5th November 2013 and it is India's first interplanetary mission. After Roscosmos, NASA, and the European Space Agency, ISRO became the fourth space agency to reach the red planet.
Snake-like Venom Glands In Amphibians! - Sakshi English

Scientists have detected snake-like dental glands in worm-like creatures called 'Caecilians'. The researchers were surprised to find some of these legless animals which have smooth and shiny skin may have venomous saliva. Generally, when we think of venom, 'Snakes' come into our minds, right! But the venom in caecilians is the first example ever found in amphibians. Over 200 caecilian species wiggle through tropical forests around the world, ranging from the 3.5-inch-long Idiocranium Russell in Cameroon to nearly five-foot-long Caecilia Thompsoni in Colombia. Carlos Jared, an evolutionary biologist at the Butantan Institute in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and author of a new study on the animals said that "Most of the animals adapt underground life and this might be the reason for caecilians to be known as the most unknown group of vertebrates. Some species have completely lost their eyes as well." It is already a known fact that caecilians have three rows of needle-nosed teeth, two on the top, and one on the bottom. This arrangement helps the predators catch and gulp down earthworms. But the caecilians that have been captured in Brazil, Jared discovered a new set of dental glands that produce saliva and most likely venomous enzymes. He added that scientists are doing further studies to confirm whether caecilian saliva is truly venomous or not. Jared said that the glands present on the caecilian's head produce a lubricant so that they can move easily into the earth. Another interesting thing is that caecilian tails have glands that can produce poison. The team of Pedro Luiz Mailho-Fontana have euthanised four specimens to study the structure of glands and they performed analyses on saliva samples from two adult ringed caecilians. They found a family of enzymes called A2 phospholipase that is present in venomous organisms such as wasps, scorpions, and snakes. Greening's Frog is another venomous amphibian found in Brazil. Utah State Universitys Professor Edmund Butch Brodie (Jr) stated that while most of the people think amphibians like frogs and salamanders are basically harmless but there are a few amphibians that store nasty, poisonous secretions in their skin to stop predators.
NASA Delays Launch Of Mars Rover Until July 30 - Sakshi English
NASA and United Launch Alliance have pushed the first launch attempt of the Mars rover, called Perseverance to July 30th......
NASA and United Launch Alliance have pushed the first launch attempt of the Mars rover, called Perseverance to July 30th due to a problem with the rocket that has been supposed to send the spacecraft to Mars. NASA said that, Due to launch vehicle processing delays in preparation for spacecraft mate operations, NASA and United Launch Alliance have moved the first launch attempt of the Mars 2020 mission to no earlier than July 30. A liquid oxygen sensor line presented off-nominal data during the Wet Dress Rehearsal, and additional time is needed for the team to inspect and evaluate. On July 17th, the Mars 2020 mission was originally scheduled to launch, with the opening of an interplanetary launch period extending over few weeks. But the launch date has been postponed due to several problems. NASA must vault off Earth's Mars 2020 mission on a trajectory towards the red planet. For every two years, NASA and other space agencies have an opportunity to send spacecraft to the red planet, when Mars comes nearer to Earth on its orbit around the Sun. Due to some problems, NASA has delayed the launch a few times before to July 20th and then to July 22nd. If NASA misses the chance to launch Mars rover, Perserverance this time, then it would have to wait until 2022. Here is the video of 'Getting NASAs Perseverance Mars Rover to launch during the COVID-19 pandemic.' NASA blames the delay for an issue that sprang up in Perseverance, an Atlas V rocket manufactured and operated by the United Launch Alliance. On June 22nd, the company had conducted a dress rehearsal of the rocket by filling it up with propellant and running through all the procedures to practice for the actual launch. During the trial run, a few sensors that monitor the level of liquid oxygen propellant in the vehicle displayed bad results. So, the team of the United Launch Alliance is trying to fix the problem as soon as possible.

Astronauts are intelligent and exceptionally brave but they are not superhuman, they still have to poop and pee. NASA needed a more serious bathroom-break plan but the solutions to this problem were not easy. After the Apollo missions ended in 1975, engineers described defecation and urination are serious problems of space travel. NASA started giving astronauts some urination equipment but the problem is not completely solved. Now the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has thrown a challenge to the global community. Those who have some innovative concepts for compact toilets that can be functional in both microgravity and lunar gravity can send to NASA and the best idea will win more than Rs. 26 lakh. The US space agency is planning to return to the Moon and many activities like providing shelter, equip, and otherwise to support future astronauts are in progress. Astronauts consume food and they urinate and defecate in microgravity and lunar gravity, so they need a toilet that has all the facilities like that of ones here on Earth. Just know about the 'Lunar Loo Challenge'. Here is the tweet made by HeroX. Just launched: the Lunar Loo Challenges! Be a part of history by designing the toilet astronauts will use during future missions on the moon & Mars. Learn how NASA is #crowdsourcing human waste disposal concepts & how you or your kids can get involved: https://t.co/o15GxUMVM9pic.twitter.com/wI7Gae2PwY HeroX (@Iamherox) June 25, 2020 NASA in its statement said that "Although space toilets already exist and are in use (at the International Space Station, for example), they are designed for microgravity only." There are two categories in this challenge - Technical and Junior. The last date to submit designs is August 17. NASA's Artemis Moon mission will carry the first woman and next man on the surface of the moon by 2024. The Artemis programme is part of the Moon to Mars exploration approach, in which astronauts will explore the Moon and use the experience to send astronauts to Mars. NASA's Human Landing System Programme is the final mode of transportation that will take astronauts to the lunar surface in the Artemis lunar exploration program. NASA experts will work closely with these commercial partners to build their human landing systems, leveraging decades of human spaceflight experience and the speed of the commercial sector to achieve a Moon landing in 2024.
Don't Miss 'A Decade Of Sun' - Sakshi English
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has released an amazing 10-year timelapse of the Sun prepared from the data......
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has released an amazing 10-year timelapse of the Sun prepared from the data collected by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), a spacecraft launched ten years ago from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. According to the space agency, the SDO which has been watching the Sun continuously for more than ten years now captures an image of the Sun every 0.75 seconds. NASA released a statement that reads, SDO has gathered 425 million high-resolution images of the Sun, amassing 20 million gigabytes of data over the past 10 years. This information has enabled countless new discoveries about the workings of our closest star and how it influences the solar system. The photos have been taken at a wavelength of 17.1 nanometers, an extreme UV wavelength that shows 'Corona' the outermost atmospheric layer of the Sun. The custom music, titled 'Solar Observer' was composed by musician Lars Leonhard, the movie condenses a decade of the Sun into 61 minutes. According to NASA, the video shows the rise and fall in activity that occurs as part of the Suns 11-year solar cycle and some of the important events like transiting planets and eruptions. Every second is a day. Here is the video. NASA said that In the video, one could see the dark frames that are caused by Earth or the Moon eclipsing SDO as they pass between the spacecraft and the Sun. A temporary issue with the AIA instrument was successfully resolved after a week and it resulted in the longest blackout in 2016. The images where the Sun is off-center were observed when SDO was calibrating its instruments. The Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) is a battery of four telescopes specially designed to capture the Suns surface and atmosphere. (Inputs from NASA blog)
