Kelly Khumalo recently opened up about the ongoing sibling rivalry she has with her sister Zandile its gone legal. It is never nice to fight with family, especially siblings. Your siblings are meant to be lifelong friends, not enemies. Briefly.co.za knows that Kelly and Zandiles drama stems from apparent claims Kelly made about her ex-husband, Mhlo Gumede. Kelly distanced herself from Mhlo after he was involved in a scam, then Zandile took Mhlos side and kicked her sister to the curb. Sitting down with Afternoon Express, Kelly explained that the matter was being handled by lawyers and that things had escalated. Kelly has no time for those who do not choose her. I am that one person who moved on when it is time to move on, whether you are family or not. When it is time to move on, it is time to move on. Another thing Kelly touched on was her apparent Covid-19 meltdown. Kelly made it clear that she was crying for the country and its people, not herself. Being in tune with her spiritual side, Kelly said a voice told her to feel the pain of her people and pray. It was not even me. If you know me very well, you would know that I am a very spiritual person and I have a gift, in terms of spirituality. I see things. I feel things. With so much that we are going through as a nation, I felt all sorts of things. One voice that was loud to me was to ask people, plead with people, to pray and tell God exactly what we want from this situation, because he is the only person who can put an end to this. DiRT 5 Codemasters interview next gen - Red Bull
We speak with Codemasters, the developers behind DiRT 5, about the latest in the incredible rally franchise, and what we can expect when the game lands on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Written by Jamie Hunt-StevensonPublished on 08.05.2020 - 9:04 We speak with Codemasters, the developers behind DiRT 5, about the latest in the incredible rally franchise, and what we can expect when the game lands on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Its official: DiRT 5 arrives on October 24, hitting PC, Xbox One, PS4 and, arguably most excitingly, next-gen consoles. The previous instalment in this ace racing series brought together the studied authenticity of sims and the glorious fun of arcade racing to offer a stunning overall package. DiRT 5, fit to burst with incredible new features, looks to be no different. We caught up with Michael Moreton at Codemasters, the games lead designer, to find out more about what racers can expect from DiRT 5, whats new, and the opportunity and challenge of designing a game for next-gen consoles. The DiRT series boasts extraordinary visuals, detailed enough for you to feel every mud splash, tyre spin and fender bender. Now, with the game coming to both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X, theres an opportunity to deliver one of the greatest looking racing games around. So what can players expect from these next-gen visuals? Expect something that matches the design and goals of the whole game: something bold, ambitious, brave and memorable. Were really excited about how the power of the new consoles can help us achieve the lofty goals weve laid out for DiRT 5, in terms of how we want players to experience it and the visual approach plays a huge part in that. Regardless of the type of racing game were developing, Codemasters always finds a way to make each racing world stunning in its own way. Then, you look at DiRT 5, which specifically focuses on adding a layer of artistic style and flair to all aspects of what the player experiences. And then you combine that with the groundbreaking technology sitting in the new generation of consoles, much of which focuses on opening up even more possibilities with graphical fidelity and quality. So yeahits a pretty nice combination! Moretons excitement over the possibilities of next gen is palpable, citing the unparalleled potential performance and features, and Codemasters aim to take advantage of as many of these as possible from experimenting with the 120Hz mode or using the incredibly fast loading of next-gen. But with so many new toys to play with, what was the priority when building DiRT for the next generation of consoles? Morton explains, The number one priority is getting our engine working on the new hardware! After that we look at what benefits and enhancements we get out of the box from running on next-gen. The key focus after that is to look at all the new features both in terms of hardware and functionality and assess how we can take advantage of these to improve the experience, depth, visuals and immersion in DiRT 5. Moretons keen to stress that new technology means new opportunities, but adds that it can also create new challenges and push developers to approach things differently. A big focus for us is also that we want there to be a balance between all platforms, he says. Regardless of generation, the focus is on giving players the best experience possible, whatever platform theyre playing on. There will obviously be console players who dont switch to new-gen consoles right away, and were ensuring that DiRT 5 is an absolute blast for those players, too. Having briefly touched upon the challenges of designing a game for new consoles, we ask Moreton to elaborate: With every new console gen you have new hurdles to overcome any development team will tell you this is a time thats as challenging as it is exciting. You often have to rethink the processes and systems youve used for years and shape them around what the new technology requires. Thankfully, weve got an incredibly talented team here working on DiRT 5, whove used the new generation of consoles to be even more creative and ambitious. Once you understand those challenges, it creates a new opportunity, and the team have done a brilliant job at taking those opportunities. As for a comparison between Sony and Microsofts new flagship consoles, Moreton adds: This is one of the biggest steps forward for a console generation that weve ever seen, in terms of its capabilities. Whether its frame rate, resolution, RAM, GPU size were seeing specs that you just wouldnt have thought were possible for consoles a few years ago. In our tests and optimisations for Microsoft and Sonys new consoles, theyre both blowing us away with whats under the hood. Each has its own intricacies but all in all, theyre just two supreme consoles that are both giving us a lot of license to create. As with any long-running series, new modes and features will often be the point of focus when discussing a new title. However, with DiRT 5, its notable that a great deal of emphasis is placed on building whats being referred to as an amplified off-road world. How exactly does DiRT 5 shake things up, though? This is something were really excited about, Moreton says. Winning is just the beginning in DiRT 5. The onus is on you to shine and succeed in a racing world full of style, personality and colour. Its what we call the vibe of DiRT 5, that drips off every aspect of the game. Everything is amplified the cars, the music, the tracks, the action; its all raised up a notch to create this vibe that youre dropped into. Whether youre in the middle of a dramatic race, designing liveries, taking photos, or anything else, you have that amplified backdrop that encourages you to be creative and playful. He continues by explaining that next-gen technology has given the team a new layer of quality and immersion to add onto DiRT 5, making those amplified moments and features really pop and be memorable, adding, We want to give players those moments where you cant help but smile, capture an incredible moment, and show it off to the world. Everything about the next-gen console advances helps us create that. As for the modes and features players can look forward to, theres a story-driven Career mode that heads up the offline modes, featuring voice acting stars Troy Baker and Nolan North, and which leads you through what Moreton describes as a deep narrative and plenty of player decisions to make. Theres also an offline race creator where you can mix up all the environments and car types from classic rally cars to boulder-conquering trucks, souped-up buggies and much more. All these offline modes include split-screen for up to four players. As for online, theres curated playlists of race events to dive into, along with some very special Party Game modes we cant wait to show more on, Moreton explains. You can also express your style and individuality with player profile options, a deep livery editor and Photo Mode. As for any more additions, Moreton teases, Weve still got plenty under our sleeves to reveal in the coming months, including a feature youve never seen before from this franchise. In the announcement trailer, we were given a taste of how the game will take drivers across the globe and throw down challenges in all kinds of environments and terrain from ice racing on New Yorks East River, to muddy trails in China, to night racing under the Aurora Borealis in Norway. But its not just changing terrain that players will have to look out for, according to Moreton: We gave a little glimpse into how each environment can be changed up totally by different extreme weather conditions. Both in terms of car handling and visibility, youll have to be bold and brave to race through blizzards, sandstorms, electrical storms and more. Having dynamic weather and time of day in DiRT 5 means you could start a race at a misty dawn, for example, then as you race, the sun comes out and the sky is beautiful vibrant blue, yet as time continues to tick, a storm comes in and all of a sudden, snow surrounds you. Thats just one example of what you will experience While DiRT 5 is hitting upcoming next-gen consoles from Microsoft and Sony, as well as Xbox One, PS4, PC via Steam, it will also be landing on Google Stadia and Windows Store a little later on. But how does developing for the streaming service differ from consoles? Moreton concludes: DiRT 5 is set to launch on Stadia at a slightly later date than other platforms, as planned. Stadia versions of our games do require a slightly different development process, but that again has its own advantages at times. Were learning all the time when it comes to Stadia, and Google have given us tremendous support along the way with getting DiRT 5 developed and optimised for Stadia. Whatever the platform, we cant wait to get to grips with DiRT 5 when it lands on October 24, 2020.
Concourt dismisses Thales bid to stop prosecution in Zuma corruption trial - News24
The Constitutional Court has dismissed French arms company Thales' last bid to stop its prosecution for corrupting Jacob Zuma from going ahead - removing the final barrier for the Zuma trial to continue.
The Constitutional Court has dismissed French arms company Thales' last bid to stop its prosecution for corrupting Jacob Zuma from going ahead - removing the final barrier for the Zuma trial to continue. South Africa's highest court found that the appeal should be dismissed with costs because "it lacks reasonable prospects of success". The decision means that there are no more legal challenges standing in the way of the State, allowing it to commence with the now 15-year-old case against Zuma and Thales. Read the order here That trial is set to resume on 23 June. Thales stands accused of offering Zuma a R500 000-a-year bribe - in exchange for the then deputy president's "political protection" from any potential investigation of the R60 billion arms deal. While Zuma recently abandoned his Constitutional Court bid to prevent the case from proceeding, Thales persisted in a separate challenge. The company sought direct access to the Constitutional Court, after the Pietermaritzburg High Court dismissed its application for a permanent stay of its corruption prosecution. It also argued that former National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams acted unconstitutionally when he reinstated the corruption case against it.
ANC NEC lambastes Mboweni over Twitter rant, contradictions - News24
President Cyril Ramaphosa did not come to Mboweni's defence as his detractors lambasted him for contradicting the government's position on the lockdown.
Finance Minister Tito Mboweni's public utterances as well as him contradicting his Cabinet colleagues have landed him in hot water - again. LIVE | All the latest coronavirus and lockdown updates On Thursday, he was condemned at an ANC national executive committee (NEC) meeting for "acting out of the collective leadership" and behaving "out of order". President Cyril Ramaphosa did not come to Mboweni's defence as his detractors - like secretary-general Ace Magashule - lambasted him for contradicting the government's position on the lockdown. Three NEC members, who participated in the virtual meeting, confirmed Ramaphosa had told the meeting he would talk to Mboweni and caution him about his public statements. "I have often asked myself the question: What is the art of politics? The path to power and how to stay in power! And lead your people correctly. Corruption free. Why do people want to be in power, actually? Why? It's a poorly paying, thankless and abusive job!" Mboweni tweeted. Not so long ago, I was a free man, no political constraints. Then I agreed, voluntarily to join Government. Tjoooo! Free but not free!! You have to obey the majority/collective decisions! Sometimes it feels like swallowing a rock!?? — Tito Mboweni (@tito_mboweni) May 5, 2020 I have often asked myself the question: What is the art of politics? The Path to Power and how to stay in Power! And lead your People correctly. Corruption free. Why do people want to be in Power, actually? Why? It’s a poorly paying, thankless and abusive job!! — Tito Mboweni (@tito_mboweni) May 5, 2020 This after he contradicted the government's position on the cigarette ban as well his Cabinet colleagues over aid packages to B-BBEEE companies. Mboweni, who did not attend the virtual NEC meeting, told Parliament he had lost the debate in the Cabinet against continuing the cigarette ban during the lockdown. While some argued they understood his frustrations, others lambasted him. Despite repeated criticism about Mboweni's push to access funding from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ramaphosa again defended the decision in detail. Insiders said he explained South Africa had to source funding for its R500 billion stimulus plan for the economy and while the market was offering loans at 7% interest, the IMF had offered South Africa a loan with a 1% interest rate. "We were told that we must forget ideological posturing. This is about what makes sense," an insider at the meeting said. The ANC's Economic Transformation Committee was given the responsibility to come up with a detailed plan to "recalibrate" the economy and find ways to promote manufacturing to boost the economy. Ramaphosa opened the meeting with his political report talking about the opportunity created by the Covid-19 pandemic to create a "new economy". "The president spoke about the possibilities of a new economy and how infrastructure development would be the flywheel of the economy. He said we need to do the unusual and we have to look at the silver lining moment in this crisis," the source said. Ramaphosa also spoke about the critical role of the state in intervening in the economy, insiders said. - Stay healthy and entertained during the national lockdown. Watchdogs warn COVID-19 apps come with privacy risks to Canadians - Bowen Island Undercurrent
OTTAWA — Governments that want to use smartphones to trace the movements of Canadians during the COVID-19 crisis should handle personal information with care, privacy watchdogs from across the . . .
OTTAWA Governments that want to use smartphones to trace the movements of Canadians during the COVID-19 crisis should handle personal information with care, privacy watchdogs from across the country warned Thursday in a united call for caution. Privacy commissioners have been warning of potential risks associated with government COVID-19 apps since provinces started musing about the idea a few weeks ago. The apps work by keeping a record of when one phone gets close to another, and then alerting users if they've come into contact with someone who has a confirmed or presumed case. Alberta introduced its ABTraceTogether app last week, and New Brunswick, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador are looking at developing their own. "The choices that our governments make today about how to achieve both public health protection and respect for our fundamental Canadian values, including the right to privacy, will shape the future of our country," the federal, provincial and territorial privacy commissioners wrote in a joint statement Thursday. Federal privacy czar Daniel Therrien said the health crisis calls for some flexibility when it comes to the application of privacy laws, but there is a way to use technology to fight the spread of the novel coronavirus without sacrificing fundamental rights to privacy. "Everything hinges on design, and appropriate design depends on respect for certain key privacy principles," Therrien said in a statement Thursday. Therrien and the other commissioners said that while app developers need to respect Canada's privacy laws, those laws aren't always effective in the digital world. They released a set of guidelines for provinces, urging them to be transparent and accountable about how their apps work and what is being done with users' personal information. The commissioners stressed participation should be voluntary and users should provide clear consent to whatever they're signing up for. The apps should also be secure to safeguard personal data, which should be destroyed once the crisis is over, they said. Canada's chief public health officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, said her team is keeping an eye on the apps in development across the country to see if one could be adopted at the national level, but privacy will be the main concern. "I think if there are certain tools that are better than others, that's the kind of knowledge that you want to share," Tam said at a briefing Wednesday. "Not just whether the application works, but all of the policies that go with it, like privacy, which I think is the most paramount of some of the policy discussions." The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta is already reviewing the app deployed in Alberta, and will be issuing recommendations to the provincial government. This report by The Canadian Press was first published May 7, 2020.
