2021 VW Golf GTI Clubsport Announced With 296 HP And A Trick New Diff - CarScoops
The upgraded VW Golf GTI Clubsport also has a driving mode tuned for the Nurburgring.
With the hot hatch market continuing to grow, it was only a matter of time before Volkswagen launched a more powerful variant of the Mk8 Golf GTI and this is it; the 2021 VW Golf GTI Clubsport. Like the standard GTI, the GTI Clubsport features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. However, whereas the standard model is capped at 242 hp and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque, well down on rivals like the Hyundai i30 N, the GTI Clubsport is rated at a more respectable 296 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm). These gains have been achieved with an enlarged intercooler, a new Continental turbocharger, and retuned ECU software. Paired to the engine is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that drives the front wheels. VW says the hatch will hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 6.0 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The dual-clutch has shorter gear ratios than it does in the regular GTI. Elsewhere, the VW Golf GTI Clubsport comes complete with a VAQ electromechanical locking front differential that replaces the electronic XDS system of the standard GTI. This new differential can be adjusted depending on the driving modes. Other upgrades include increased camber at the front, a new control arm mount at the rear, new wheel mounts, bespoke damper bearings, and a new spring configuration. The Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system has also been upgraded to include fifteen settings between the Comfort and Sport driving modes. This includes a mode tuned for the Nurburgring Nordschleife. The ABS and stability control systems have also been fine-tuned to increase slip thresholds to improve braking performance and stability. From a visual standpoint, the Golf GTI Clubsport includes a distinctive front bumper with a new splitter, 19-inch wheels, and a two-piece rear spoiler that helps to reduce lift. The hot hatch also includes black graphics on the side skirts while interior changes are limited to new upholstery on the seats. Pricing and availability details have yet to be announced. Muscled Up 2022 Mercedes-AMG C63 Makes Spy Debut With Mystery Powertrain - CarScoops
The upcoming C63 is rumored to feature an electrified powertrain with either six or four cylinders.
Test prototypes of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class have been spotted repeatedly in recent months, but there has been no trace of the AMG C63 range-topper yet. Until now, that is, because our photographers have spotted a 2022 Mercedes-AMG C63 prototype for the first time entering and exiting the carmakers Nürburgring Nordschleife test center. How do we know its the C63 and not a regular C-Class? Well, despite the heavy camouflage, there are several elements that give it away. First and foremost, the prototype features a big Panamericana grille thats a staple of Mercedes-AMG models. See Also: See The Facelifted 2021 Mercedes-AMG E63 And E53 Sedan, Estate And Cabrio From Every Angle Then there are the visibly wider wheel arches front and rear, another sign of AMG-ness, so to speak. Other telling details include the many air intakes in the front camouflage, as well as the beefier brakes with big ventilated discs up front and generous calipers. Last but not least, this prototype sports quad exhausts typical of Mercedes-AMG models. Other than the AMG-specific parts, expect the upcoming C63 to adopt the same S-Class-inspired design as the regular C-Class, including the exterior lights and MBUX 2.0-equipped interior. Mind you, this particular prototype features provisional lights at the back. Theres one very important thing that we cant identify for the moment and that’s the type of powertrain residing under the long hood. Rumor has it the next-generation C63 will leave the glorious 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 behind to cut back on emissions. The real question is what will Mercedes-AMG replace the V8 with. As it turns out, it could be a twin-turbo straight-six or an even less brawny turbocharged 2.0-liter four-pot from the A45 S and CLA45 S. Regardless of which of these engines will be chosen, plug-in hybrid assistance is a given, taking the total output beyond 500 horsepower. Another important update will reportedly be the addition of an optional 4Matic AWD system, a first for the C63. The all-new Mercedes-AMG C63 is expected to debut in late 2021-early 2022, after the launch of the regular C-Class. PHOTO GALLERY Photo credits: S. Baldauf/SB-Medien for CarScoops
Limited-Run Ford Fiesta ST Edition Offers A Sportier Driving Experience From £27,075 - CarScoops
The Ford Fiesta ST Edition features an adjustable coilover suspension and lightweight alloy wheels.
Ford has introduced a limited edition of the Fiesta ST, which is offered in Europe in 500 units, including 300 for the UK market. Priced from £27,075 ($35,000), the three-door Fiesta ST Edition is differentiated by the Azura Blue exterior paint finish that’s contrasted by the gloss black detailing on the upper grille, fog lamp surrounds, side mirror casings, roof, rear spoiler, diffuser and lightweight 18-inch alloy wheels that have shed almost 8 kg (18 lbs) compared to the standard car. Review: New Ford Fiesta ST Is Better, But Not As Sharp As Its Predecessor Inside, the new Fiesta ST Edition features carbon fiber effect trim on the instrument cluster surround, decorative elements, illuminated starter button, leather-wrapped steering wheel, gearshift knob and handbrake lever, blue stitching and ST-branded Recaro seats, seatbelts and floor mats. It also comes with the SYNC 3 infotainment system, with an 8-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging pad and FordPass Connect modem that connects it to the users smartphone. The biggest novelty is the introduction of the adjustable suspension. Developed and tested at the Nurburgring by Ford Performance, the two-way coilover system reduces the height by 15 mm (0.6 in) at the front and 10 mm (0.4 in) at the rear, and can be fine-tuned thanks to the twelve bump settings and 16 rebound settings, thus increasing the response during high-speed cornering. Selecting the sportiest setting is now possible with the dedicated button mounted on the steering wheel. Launch Control is also available and the three-mode ESC is standard. Power is still provided by the 1.5-liter three-pot that pumps out 200 PS (197 HP / 147 kW) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft), allowing it to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds and a 230 km/h (143 mph) top speed. BMW’s New 128ti Hot Hatch Previewed As The Brand’s Answer To The VW Golf GTI - CarScoops
The new 128ti will be the first BMW hot hatch with front-wheel-drive.
BMW is putting the final touches on the upcoming 128ti, the upcoming hot hatch version of the 1-Series hatchback which is set to slot underneath the range-topping M135i xDrive. The new BMW 128ti will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine with 261 HP (265 PS), driving the front wheels via a Torsen limited-slip differential and an eight-speed automatic transmission, which will be the only option. BMW claims a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.1 seconds. Read Also: 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe Takes To The Nürburgring For The First Time Whats important here is that the upcoming 128ti will not be just another fast variant in the models range, as BMW has put much thought and care to tune the suspension and steering specifically to this model in order to offer extremely sporty and driver-oriented driving dynamics. The new BMW 128ti is basically the first BMW hot hatch with front-wheel-drive and only the third model in the brands history to feature the Turismo Internazionale suffix. The production version will get a specifically tuned passive M Sport suspension thats lower by 10mm and comes with stiffer settings than the M135i, from which it shares the same stabilizers and the M Sport brakes. In addition, the new BMW 128ti will be around 80 kg (176 lbs) lighter than the M135i xDrive, mostly due to the lack of all-wheel-drive. BMW promises that the new hot version of the 1-Series will also feature many differentiating exterior and interior features, in order to stand out from its lesser siblings. BMW is going to launch the new 128ti in November across Europe, going against traditional hot hatches like the VW Golf GTI, the Ford Focus ST and will even try to pick a fight with the more hardcore FWD performance models in the segment, including the Honda Civic Type R and the Renault Megane RS. Prior Design Gives Porsche Taycan Turbo S Wings And Wide Hips - CarScoops
The components can be made out of carbon fiber on request and are complemented by 22-inch rims .
Prior Design has just previewed a new widebody kit for the all-electric Porsche Taycan. The comprehensive styling package comprises of fender flares that have increased the width of the electric sedan by 2.4 in (60 mm) at the front and 3.9 in (100 mm) at the back, an apron attached to the new front bumper, as well as side air intakes in front of the wheels, big side skirts, a diffuser and a large fixed wing on the boot lid that gives it a motorsport vibe. The components can be made of carbon fiber on request, and are joined by 22-inch wheels with a five double-spoke design, which are finished in black on the car pictured here. Watch Also: Can The Porsche Taycan Turbo S Defeat Hypercars Like The McLaren P1? Owners of the Taycan who find the widened looks a bit too much will soon be able to order a version of the body kit that will make do without the flared fenders. Pricing and availability will be announced at a later date. Prior Design did not mention anything about the performance aspect of the car which is a range-topping Turbo S, so it is probably still stock. Which is perfectly fine considering that its very fast as it is, with a 2.6-second 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time and a 161 mph (260 km/h) top speed. The front and rear electric motors of the Taycan Turbo S develop a maximum output of 750 HP (761 PS / 550 kW) and 774 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) of torque, on overboost, while the 93.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, which can be charged up to 80 percent in around 22 minutes at a 270 kW charger, give Porsche’s all-electric sports saloon an EPA-rated range of 192 miles (309 km). Watch A 1,300 HP VW Golf Mk2 Hit 211 MPH In Half A Mile! - CarScoops
This stupendously powerful Golf also does the quarter mile in just 9.1 seconds.
The Race1000 event held a couple of weeks ago in Germany gathered some very fast machines, and one of them caught our attention – a Volkswagen Golf. Thats right, a Golf from the second generation was one of the most exciting cars that lined up at the start line on that weekend. Despite looking like a well-preserved and mostly stock example, save for the huge intercooler behind the front bumper, a big exhaust pipe and a roll cage, the old timer can eat supercars for breakfast and, with a little bit of luck, hypercars for lunch. Watch Also: The VW Golf MK2 GTI Is Still Everything You Like In A Hot Hatch The compact hatchback has around 1,300 horsepower sent to all four wheels, or 200 HP less than the mighty Bugatti Chiron. The countless modifications and huge output allowed it to hit 211 mph (340 km/h) at the end of the half-mile run. This achievement has turned it into the fastest Volkswagen Golf 2 in the world, according to the description of the video that shows it in action, a claim shared in the owners Facebook page as well. This Golf Mk2 is also a quarter-mile champ that can mix it with the quickest-accelerating cars out there. Digging through the aforementioned social media page, we found proof that it ran the quarter mile earlier this summer in 9.1 seconds with an exit speed of 174 mph (280 km/h), whereas the 1/8-mile was covered in 6.2 seconds, at 137 mph (220 km/h). Kudos to the owner for creating an excellent surface-to-surface missile.
2021 Toyota Fortuner: Hilux’s 7-Seater SUV Sibling Gets A Facelift Too - CarScoops
The 2021 Toyota Fortuner will be offered with a new 2.8-liter turbo-diesel.
Premiering alongside the facelifted Toyota Hilux is the refreshed 2021 Toyota Fortuner and while it isnt sold in the U.S., it brings with it some minor revisions that should help it keep pace with the competition in markets including Australia. The second-generation Fortuner has been on sale since 2015 and while it wasnt really crying out for a facelift, the host of changes made by the Japanese car manufacturer do make it look a tad more stylish. These changes start at the front end where a set of slim headlights have been fitted and complete with an incorporated LED daytime running lights. Read Also: 2021 Toyota Hilux Has Tweaked Looks And A New 2.8-Liter Diesel Complementing the more striking headlights is an enlarged grille with a black horizontal mesh pattern. The bumper is also more angular and includes large black vents housing small fog lights. The shape and design of this vents, as well as the grille, depends on the variant. In Thailand, for example, the Fortuner Legender has a split front grille. At the rear, customers will find new taillights. In Australia, the rugged SUV will be sold with a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine producing 201 hp (150 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque, gains of 27 hp (20 kw) and 37 lb-ft (50 Nm) over the pre-facelift model. Despite the added grunt, Toyota says additional measures made including improved cooling actually results in better fuel consumption, particularly in city driving where the improvement is more than 17 per cent. Not only is this new 2.8-liter turbo-diesel more powerful and more efficient but towing capacity has been increased by 661 lbs (300 kg) up to 6,834 lbs (3,100 kg). As for the cabin, limited changes have been made although there is a larger 8-inch infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2021 Toyota Fortuner will land in Australia in August. PHOTO GALLERY
Looters Vandalize And Wreck Porsche 911 GT3 RS In Los Angeles - CarScoops
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS was left with smashed windows and vandalized.
Last weekend, protestors and looters took to the streets of Los Angeles, as well as dozens of other cities across the United States, to protest the death of George Floyd on May 25 in Minneapolis. The video below from YouTuber and car photographer effspot provides us with a shocking look at what happened in The City of Angels. The vast majority of the video shows looters breaking into stores and stealing anything they could find. At one stage, looters smash through the glass windows and doors at an Alexander McQueen, stealing many expensive items from the fashion outlet. For car enthusiasts like ourselves, however, things really hit home when the YouTuber stumbles across a black Porsche 911 GT3 RS that was also destroyed. Read: Looters Raid FCA Dealership Driving Off With Hellcats, Burn AMG GT In Mercedes Showroom The story of how the Porsche ended up like this is unclear but we can clearly see that it has been wrecked. The roof has been caved in, most likely after a person or people jumped on it. In addition, the rear window is smashed, the side windows have been smashed and it has been tagged with orange graffiti. The passenger door has also been left open and the hazard lights can be seen flashing. Read More: San Leandro Rioters Stole 50 Cars From FCA Dealer, Including Nearly Every $80k Hellcat Not only is it shocking to see a 911 wrecked like this, but it is rather surprising looters didnt steal it and just left it sitting in the road. At one point in the clip, someone can be heard saying the car has no key, indicating the owner may have fled the scene with the key so no one could steal the car. Its hard to be entirely sure that this actually is a GT3 RS based on the video or instead, a lesser 911 model souped-up to look like one. For starters, black 997.1-generation GT3 RS models are very rare and left the factory adorned with bright orange graphics which this car doesnt have. It is also missing the front splitter of the GT3 RS. On the other hand, it does feature a GT3 RS rear wing as well as gloss black wheels and yellow brake calipers.
